  • listen to an interview with a musician

  • Good afternoon children!
  • Sit down, please!
  • I’m very glad to see you today! Who is absent?
  • Today we have unusual lesson. Open lesson

Look at the interactive board. What do you see?

  • What are these? (These are notes)
  • What types of music do you know? (Pop, HipHop, R&B, Classic etc.)

The main part of the lesson

Topic of today’s lesson is: “ Instruments“

We divided into two groups: the 1st  group and the 2nd group!

  • Ok. Now please open your Students book at page 64. Look at the pictures. There are fourteen instruments.
  • Do you know some of them? Ok. Now let’s do exercise 1 – match the words in the box with the instruments. I give you two minutes. Start please!
  • Ok. Now let’s listen and check your answers and repeat the new words.

Answers:

1. clarinet                  8. piano

2. saxophone             9. drums

3. guitar                    10. trumpet

4. banjo                     11. keyboards

5. flute                      12. mouth organ

6. violin                     13. recorder

7. tambourine            14. cello

  • Now look at the interactive board. Answer the questions. For the 1st group the first question:

1. What instrument do you associate with orchestras and classical music?

And the second question is for the 2nd group:

2. What instruments do you expect to see in a pop or rock band?

For the right answer you will get a star! **

Work with cards:

Look at the words in the box. Match them to the correct musical family. Which instrument doesn’t fit into any family?

Now listen to a journalist, Marcia, interviewing Leo. Check your ideas from exercise 3.

Read the questions in exercise 5. You are going to listen an interview again and then try to answer the questions. The first three questions are for the 1st group/ from 4 to 6 questions for the 2nd group

1. she is at the Auckland Buskers Festival

2. because he plays so many instruments

3. Leo’s banjo is new

4. about seven hours

5. jazz and blues, folk and country as well as rock music

6. he’s never played the cello or the violin

For the right answer you will get a star! **

Your turn: exercise 6

Work in groups. Do a music survey. Report your group’s information to the class.

● Do you like listening to music?

● What kinds of music do you like?

● Do you play a musical instrument? Can you play us? ( one of the pupils will play a musical instrument)

Consolidation of the topic: Let’s find out whether you remember new words from the topic “Instruments”

  • Look at the interactive board. Looking at the pictures name the instrument.
