Warming up:
І. Greetings
Today we’ll speak about seasons and weather. Look through the window! What is the weather like today? Is it snowy? Is it frosty? It is winter. It’s cold and dark in the morning. The days are very short but the nights are very long. It’s December. Soon we’ll celebrate Christmas and New Year.
ІІ. Phonetic drill:
Whether the weather is hot
Or whether the weather is cold
Whether the weather is fine
Or whether the weather is not.
We’ll weather the weather
Whatever the weather
Whether we like it or not.
ІІІ. Brainstorming:
1. English and Russian sayings and proverbs about seasons and weather.
Guess and name the season, translate:
- April showers (ливни) bring May flowers.
- Its raining cats and dogs.
- A snowy year is a rich year.
- One swallow (ласточка) doesn’t make a spring.
- After rain comes fair (ясная) weather.
2. And now we’d like to hear Russian proverbs!
3. Put the extra word away and guess the season:

5. English traditions: dialogues, situations, speaking.
Teacher: We know that English speak about weather when they meet. It’s a tradition. Why is it so? The weather in England is unpredictable, changeable, wet, foggy, rainy and warm. What’s the reason? Think and answer.
Pupil 1: Great Britain is an island.
Pupil 2: There is water around it.
Pupil 3: There is Atlantic Ocean near it.
Pupil 4: There are seas around it.
Teacher: Now we’ll work in pairs. Look at the situations on the cards you’ve got.
1 pair:
- Hello!

- I’d like to know the forecast for today.
- It will be warm, windy, T+20?.
2 pair:
- Hello!
- Hello!
- How are you?
-I ’m fine. The weather is nice today, isn’t it?
- It’s wonderful!
3 pair:
- Hello!
- Hello! I’m going to Irkutsk tomorrow. What will the weather be there?
- You are lucky! It will be warm, no rain, and the temperature is 25 ? above zero.
6. Защита проектов “The weather map of Europe”. Конкурс на лучшего диктора телевидения. На доске - проекты, учащиеся рассказывают о погоде в разных странах Европы. Речь, мимика, жесты, реакция – учитываются.
England: It’ll be cloudy and rainy. In the morning it will be foggy. The t? in London- 20 degrees above zero.
Spain: Cloudy, rainy, wet. The temperature in Madrid is + 20?.
France: Sunny, windy. The t? in Paris + 22?.
Italy: No rain, sunny, hot. The t? in Rome +30?.
Russia: Warm, windy. The t? in Moscow is +20?.
7. Аудирование: снятие трудностей, слова на доске: in the sky, mouths, rainwater, fresh, it’s raining hard, umbrellas. Учащиеся образуют 3 группы. Задачи перед аудированием: внимательно прослушать текст, подготовить задания по группам:
1 группа - актеры (пантомима)
2 группа - (художники (рисунки)
3 группа – рассказчики (сообщение на английском языке)
Представители групп отчитываются перед классом.
It is raining
There are dark clouds in the sky.

8. Poetry contest. You know many poems about weather and seasons in English. Let’s recite some poems.
Snow on trees, on the roofs,
A snowman in the yard.
Frost on windows, ice on ponds
It’s Christmas card!
Raindrops on the sidewalk
Like a grasshopper hops
It dances, jumps and giggle
And never, never stops.
Stop falling around
And having a ball!
The summer is over
Look out – it’s fall!
Rain, rain go away!
Come again another day!
Little children want to play
On a sunny, lovely day!
May is warm and with lots of sun
In June school can be fun.
In July it’s hot, hot, hot!
In August we travel a lot!
In September we come back to town,

9. Now listen to the poem and guess. Remember beautiful pictures of winter in Russia.
Neath lucid skies of cleanest azure
Под голубыми небесами, великолепными коврами
The winters rich and dazzling treasure,
Блестя на солнце, снег лежит,
Her gorgeous rugs of snow are spread.
Прозрачный лес один синеет,
The wood is etched against them darkly,
И ель сквозь иней зеленеет,
The firs, rime-starred are green and sparkling,
И речка подо льдом блестит.
In shiny mail the stream is clad.
Teacher: A.S. Pushkin is the son of Russian poetry. Listen and guess, please.
Звучат фрагменты из произведений Чайковского “Времена года”, Гершвина “Летнее время”, Вивальди “Времена года”. На фоне музыки учитель читает стихи.
Гонимы вешними лучами
С окрестных гор уже снега,
Сбежали мутными ручьями
На потопленные луга. (It’s spring!)
Улыбкой ясною природа
Сквозь сон встречает утро года!
Уж небо осенью дышало,
Уж реже солнышко блистало,
