The aim:  1) To introduce pupils with the holidays in  Great Britain.

                  2) To develop pupils'  listening and speaking skills on the theme.                   

                  3) To arouse their interest to learning English, to be  active and attentive.

Procedure of the lesson:

I. Organization moment

Teacher:  Good afternoon, pupils!

Pupils:   Good afternoon, teacher!

Teacher: I am glad to see you! Thank you! Sit down. Who is on duty today?

Pupils:   I am on duty today.

Teacher:  Who is absent?

Pupils:   All are present.. is/are absent.

Teacher:  What date is it today?

Pupils:   Today is the 23rd of April .

Teacher:  What day is it today?

Pupils:   Today is Thursday.

Teacher:  Thank you. Sit down. Let`s begin our lesson open lesson.

II. Phonetic drill

Teacher: Ok, pupils. Look at the blackboard. This is our small phonetic drill. The letter. At first I`ll read, listen to me carefully.

Good, better, best

Never, never rest

Till your good is better

And your better best

Teacher:  Repeat after me all together.

Teacher:  Who wants to read?

Pupils: May I?

Teacher:  Please.

III. Checking up the home task

Teacher:  What was your homework for today?

Pupils: ex., p...

Teacher:  Who is ready?

Pupils: May I?

Teacher:  Yes, you may.

IV: New words

Teacher:  Today's our new theme is about holidays in Great Britain.

  • What holidays do you know in Great Britain ?

Pupils:   …

Teacher: What do you know about that holidays? I'll give you word combinations and you must speak about that holiday.

Pupils:  a) Christmas. decorate Christmas trees, presents, to leave a long sock or stocking, on December 24, Santa Claus, chimney, presents, turkey, Christmas pudding.
b) St. Valentine’s Day. to send cards, love, to send gifts, sweets, flowers, on February 14.

c) Thanksgiving Day. families, traditional dinner,  roast turkey, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, to give thanks, good things.

d) New Year. on December 31, parties, to dress up in costumers, masks, to visit friends, relatives, neighbors,  watch television.
e) Halloween, on 31st of October, for children, knock, “trick” or “threat”, to give them money or sweets, to play a trick.

Teacher:  Yes, you are right.

Physical exercise

Are you tired? Let's do physical exercise.

Teacher: The next task is rebus. You must solve rebus.

5. On Valentine's  day many people send cards to people they love.

6.New Year day celebrated on December 31.

Teacher: Well, pupils, I'll give you postcards. You must say what holiday is it.     

Teacher: Ok, look at the video and say what holiday is it.

Teacher: The next task is puzzle. You must solve puzzle.

  1. Giving home task.
  2. Your home task for next time to learn by heart new words and write short essay about holiday in Kazakhstan.

VII. Marking.

Your mark is excellent (good, bad)
