Типичная британская погода

Цели: обучение диалогической речи; развитие навыков монологической речи.

Оборудование: записи на доске; магнитофон; карточки с условными изображениями погодных условий (см. упр. 1).

Задачи урока:

1. Отрабатывать лексику по теме "Climate and Weather" в серии тренировочных и речевых упражнений.

2. Формировать умение употреблять новые лексические единицы в собственных мини-высказываниях.

3. Развивать умение отбирать и использовать уместные вербальные средства вежливого поведения на английском языке.

4. Обобщать и систематизировать грамматический материал по теме «Безличные предложения» с It's... с помощью языковых и речевых предложений.

5. Повторять основные интонационные модели разных типов предложений.

6. Развивать умение воспринимать англоязычную речь на слух.

7. Развивать умение составлять и разыгрывать ритуализированный микро-диалог с опорой на диалог-образец ("Talking about Weather").

8. Практиковать учащихся в чтении и умении извлекать определенную информацию при чтении.

9. Формировать представление о географических и природных условиях страны изучаемого языка.

– Good morning, dear friends!

Today you will learn to talk to each other about weather using the structure "It's...", to speak about the typical weather in our country and find out what weather is typical of Britain. Besides, we are going to listen to your reports about the weather in Europe.

Review the cases when "It's..." is used.

• Безличные предложения в английском языке не имеют субъекта действия, хотя всегда содержать подлежащее, выраженное местоимением "it". Оно не имеет лексического значения, а выполняет функцию формального подлежащего и на русский язык не переводится.

Местоимение "it" употребляется в качестве формального подлежащего в безличных предложениях при сообщении о явлениях природы и состояниях погоды, при обозначении времени и расстояния:

• It is cold. - Холодно.

• It is spring. - Весна.

• It snows. - Идет снег.

!Времена и другие формы безличных предложений образуются в соответствии с общими правилами:

It snows. It doesn't snow. Does it snow?

It snowed. It didn't snow. Did it snow?

It is snowing. It isn't snowing. Is it snowing?

Развитие коммуникативных навыков

• Learn to read the structure in your speech. See ex. 9, p. 7. Look through the dialogues. Listen to them. Read after the announcer. Answer my questions on the first situation.

• Is it a terrible day? (No, it isn't.)

• What day is it? (It's a lovely day.)

• Is it cold or warm? (It's cold. It's minus 15.)

• What will they do? (They will go to the cinema.)

• Let's discuss the second situation.

• Is it a nice morning? (Yes, it is. It's a lovely morning.)

• Is it warm or cold? (It's warm and sunny.)

• What will they do? (They will go to the beach.)

Подобные вопросы по второй ситуации учащиеся могут задавать друг другу сами.

• Now it's your turn. Work in pairs and make up a short conversation about the weather. Use the information from exercises 4 and 8, p. 7. You have five minutes.

• Imagine you would like to invite a foreign pen-friend to your home town. Choose the best season for the visit: describe the weather and the things you can do in that season.

Language Support:

• I'd like to invite you to my home town.

• It is in the northern (southern, central) part of Russia.

• It's cold (wet, snowy, etc.) in autumn (spring, winter, summer).

• The weather is hot in summer and cold in winter.

• Sometimes it is rainy (frosty, humid, etc.).

• We can go skiing (slating, swimming, boating, fishing, pick field, (wild) flowers, gather berries, mushrooms and nuts, have a rest in the garden, go to the beach, have a lot of fun, go to a skating-rink, play snowballs, make snowmen).

• That is why I'd like you to come to my home town in summer, winter, etc.).

• What do you know about the weather in Britain? If you want to know more read the text in ex. 12, p. 8. Say why Britain's climate has got such a bad reputation. (Britain's climate has got such a bad reputation because you can never be sure of a dry day as the weather in England changes very quickly.)

• Now you know a lot about Britain's weather. Prepare to speak about the weather in Russia. See ex. 14, p. 8. Read the task. Work in pairs now. (You can never be sure of a dry day. It doesn't usually get very cold in autumn. It often gets hot in summer. It's never as cold in autumn as it is in winter.)

Work in pairs. Discuss what you would say about the weather in Russia to your British partner. Share your opinion with your classmates. Use:

1. Climate:

damp, wet, dry, mild, continental, moderate, tropical, subtropical.

2. Weather:

fine, cold, warm, cool, hot, foggy, damp (сырая), sultry (душная), stuffy (знойная), chilly (промозглая), bad, nasty (ненастная), changeable, splendid, wonderful, wretched (скверная), rainy, windy, sunny, fair, clear, dull (пасмурная).

3. It looks like rain. - Похоже, пойдет дождь.

It is raining cats and dogs! - Льет как из ведра.
