It's a clean green city that stands on the river Svisloch. This city is the largest city of Belarus with the population of about two million. It is one of the oldest cities, too. In 1967 this city had its 900th birthday. There are many beautiful sights in the city - parks and gardens, museums, cinemas, the famous Independence avenue.

MINSK

According to legend the town was founded in 974 by Olga, the Prince of Kiev, who was impressed by beautifulness of the local high hill that stood near the confluence of two rivers - Zakhodnyaya Dzvina (Western Dvina) and Vitsba. Exactly the River Vitsba gave its name to the town.

VITEBSK

This is the biggest city of Belarus after Minsk. It is situated on the bank of the River Sozh, a tributary of the River Dnepr. To believe the chronicles, This city has more than 860 years. However, the archeologists refute this date because they con­sider that the city has «about one thousand years». century it is a prominent in­dustrial town of Polesje, an important railway junction and is one of the commercial centers.

GOMEL

This region is in the North-West of Belarus and has borders with Poland and Lithuania. The center of the region is this city with the 309,000 pax. The greatest wealth of the this region is its magnificent tracts of forests that occupy more than the third of its territory. In the south-west of the region located the famous “Belavezhskaya Pushcha” National Park included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

GRODNO

In this town at the beginning of the Х IIth century Saint Evfrasinnja was born, nun-enlightener. The end of the XV-th century was marked in this town by the epochal event - Francysk Skorina, the first printer, enlightener was born.

POLATSK

This castle is older than the castle in Nesvizh. It dates from the 15th century. There is no other castle in world like this one. The builders used red bricks for the castle. Since 1992 this castle has been a museum. This place is also famous for its beautiful park.

The castle in Mir

It is the largest lake in our country. It’s 80 kilometers wide and 25 meters deep. It lays in the North of Belarus. It’s famous for its clear water and sandy beaches. There are thick forests around it. It’s a wonderful place for holidays.

It is the largest forest in Belarus. It’s a wildlife park. It lies in the South of Belarus. It’s famous for its bisons and other animals. It is a nice place to study nature.
