There is a kingdom of English Grammar. Princess English Grammar always helped people writing and speaking English. But one day the cruel magician Badwriter appeared. He wanted to marry the Princess. She refused and the magician was very angry. Then he kidnapped the Princess and took her to his dark castle. Now she is sleeping there. The castle is in the middle of the forest. We are going to go to the forest to find the dark castle and to save the sleeping Princess. We’ll help her to come back to her kingdom. Are you ready?
We have 2 teams to go to the forest and we are starting. We are coming to the forest.
Now the road is divided
into 2 ones. The first
team, will you go to
the right or to the left?
If you chose the left
road, the second team
will go to the right.
The first team, you are going to the left and soon you can see a little house. Well, you are opening the door…
Horrible forest
men
live in the house.
Here they are
Write that you have done all your work
Oh, they are glad to see you! They want you to work for them. You’ll go away only if you do what they want. There is a card with your tasks:
- Clean the room
- Bring water
- Wash the plates
- Make dinner
- Feed the pets
- Water the flowers
and then you’ll go to find the castle
The second team, it’s your turn now. You are going to the right. Your road is wider and better… But what is it? You can see the round field. Who could do it?
Read on your card :
- The baby trees are damaged
- The trees are painted
- The fire is left
- The litter is thrown away
- The flowers are pulled out
- The water in the small river is polluted.
The little forest dwarf is standing here, he is very angry because he is sure that you have done it! He doesn’t allow you to go. Write that you did not do it and then you’ll go to find the castle
Now let’s check what you have done
The first team had to write:
We have cleaned the room.
We have brought water
We have washed the plates.
We have made dinner.
We have fed the pets.
We have watered the flowers.
The second team had to write:
You have one point for each right sentence.
We did not damage the baby trees.
We did not paint the trees.
We did not leave the fire.
We didn’t throw the litter away.
We did not pull the flowers out.
We didn’t pollute water in the small river.
And we are going again. The second team, you are going along your road and suddenly you see a big hole. Will you look at it? No? Then you may go… Oh, no! It’s too late! The big bear-mother is here! She wants you to help her with her little bear-son. Teach him to read and to write.
Here is your card:
Teach him
to read, to draw,
to write, to count
When you write that the bear can do it and is doing it, you’ll continue your way.
The first team, you have gone rather far, but… Listen! Can you hear a whistle? The youngest forest man is running after you. He is sure that you didn’t do your work
Here is your card:
You did not clean the room.
You’ll have to write that your work was done.
You did not make dinner.
You did not bring water.
You did not feed the pets.
Now let’s check your works again
The first team had to write:
The room was cleaned. The dinner was made.
Some water was brought. The pets were fed.
The second team had to write:
The bear can read, he is reading. The bear can draw, he is drawing.
The bear can write, he is writing. The bear can count, he is counting.
If all sentences are without mistakes, the forest man will give you a white key. Perhaps, you will need it
You have one point for each right sentence
If all sentences are without mistakes, the bear-mother will give you a white key. Perhaps, you will need it.
Well, let’s go quickly. But just after the turning you can see big rocks on your way. Look! There are letters on them. You will be able to move all these stones when take letters to make words.

Now you can open the door and come in. Look! There are a lot of words on the wall. If you make sentences from these words the cruel magician Badwriter will lose his charms!
- I, hockey, of, am, fond, playing.
- Don’t, can, things, reuse, away, which, you, throw!
- Did, bus, last, to, they, the, go, by, by, seaside, or, train, summer?
- What, at, his, wearing, brother, school, is, younger, now?
- I, to, never, London, been, have.
Now let’s check what you have written. The right sentences are:
- I am fond of playing hockey.
- Don’t throw away things which you can reuse!
- Did they go to the seaside by bus or by train last summer?
- What is his younger brother wearing at school now?
- I have never been to London.
You are going downstairs to the door. There are 6 locks on the door and every lock has a word on it. But there are 6 keys too! Find the key for the each lock. If you have a white key you may use it for one lock.
The words on the locks are
take white smart Dick goods green
The words on the keys are
[ t e I k ]
[ w a I t
[ s m a: t ] [ d I k ] [ g u d z ] [ g r i: n ]
- The door is open. You can see the beautiful princess, but she is sleeping! I think, you will wake her up with a song. Will you sing a song? Please!
Now the princess has opened her eyes. She is happy to come back home. Thank you very much. You are the winners. And I can say that you know the English grammar!
