What is a career?

• Career - The successful promotion in official, social, scientific and other activities; moving up the career ladder.

By opting for a career, we have to define their own motives of professional activities that allow in the future to direct search for a satisfactory job.

Types and stages of career

• Professional career - growth of knowledge and skills. Professional career can follow the line of specialization (indentation in the one selected at the beginning of a career path, motion lines).
• Within the organizational career - is related to the trajectory of movement of the person in the organization. It can go on line:

• vertical career - job growth;
• horizontal career - promotion within the organization, for example, work in different departments of the same level of the hierarchy;
• centripetal career - promotion to the core of the organization, the control center, all deeper inclusion in decision-making processes.

Internal factors of choice of profession.

• Internal factors - it is possible, abilities and interests of the individual.

• Opportunities should be taken into consideration in the number of internal factors. A number of occupations closed to people with illnesses.

Career choice factors

By profession selection factors may also include the following:

• the availability of work experience
• visual appeal;
• communication (maybe I would not go to this school, but - there were ties);

Myths of professional self-determination

A special factor in the choice of profession are so-called professional self myths. These myths can best add additional stress to the situation of professional selection, as well as - to disorient young man.

Among the career objective conditions:

• highest career point - the top post, existing in a particular agency in question;
• career length - the number of positions on the way from the first position occupied by the individual in the organization, to the highest point;
• indicator of position - the ratio of the number of persons employed at the next hierarchical level, to the number of persons employed at the hierarchical level where the individual is at the moment in his career;
• indicator of potential mobility - the ratio (in some specified period of time), the number of vacancies at the next hierarchical level to the number of persons employed at the hierarchical level where the individual is.
