Uzbekistan and the Olympic Games

The origin of the Olympic Games was in Greece. The first Games took place in a valley called 'Olympia' and the Games got their name from this place. In those days the Games took place every four years and they lasted for five days. During the five days there were athletics

competitions and competitions in music and poetry. The original Olympic Games were only for men. The Modern Olympic Games began in 1896 when a Frenchman, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, decided to organize international Olympic Games. He thought that athletics were important for forming a person's character. He also thought the Games could help world peace. The first modem Olympic Games took place in 1897 in Athens, the capital of Greece. Women began to compete in 1900. Most competitors in the Games are amateurs. They take part for fun and for a love of sport - not for money. There are no prizes, only medals.

Uzbekistan and the Olympics.

• Uzbekistan first participated at the Olympic Games an independent nation in 1994, and has sent athletes to compete in every games since then.

The National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.

• The National Olympic Committee for Uzbekistan was created in 1992 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1993.

Uzbekistan at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

• Uzbekistan competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. this was the nation’s sixth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics in the post Soviet era. Uzbekistan fielded a team of 70 athletes, 47 men, and 23 women, across 15 sports at the Games.

MEDALISTS.

• The following Uzbek competitors won medals at the games.

Ruslan Nurudinov wins Uzbekistan’s first weightlifting medal.

• Ruslan Nurudinov sets Olympic record, wins weightlifting gold for Uzbekistan. He won gold on Monday in the men’s 105 kilogram weightlifting division. He stuck his tongue out and shouted with joy after his final lift, before bowing to the crowd in triumph.

• Diar Urazbaev was the first winner in Judo at the Olympic Games in Uzbek Delegation.

Paralympics.

• The 2016 Summer Paralympics the fifteenth Summer Paralympic Games , were a major international multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities governed by the International Paralympic Committee , held in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil , from 7 September to 18 September 2016. The Uzbek delegation won 31 medals.

Conclusion.

• In conclusion Uzbekistan left Rio de Janeiro with a total of 13 medals (4 gold, 2 silver, 7 bronze) signifying the nation’s most successful outcome in Olympic history. And Paralympics competitors left Rio with a total of 31 medals.
