Pre-Activity.

Activity 1a Listen and read. Choose the best title, Say why you like it.

Interaction pattern: peer work, group work

Time: (10 min)

Objectives: to check homework;

to practise listening and reading for gist;

to practise expressing opinions about titles.

Checking homework. Home tasks were ex 1,2 p.37.The first Pupils had to fill in gaps. The second task was to write sentences about the poet or writer whose works they were studying in literature lesson. The pupils can check in pairs or go round the class and work with as many pupils as they can.

Culture Note. Poster.

Robert Frost is a famous American poet. He lived from 1874 - 1963. He worked on a newspaper and then as a teacher.


Ask pupil to look on presentation on the projector (Here teacher shows a poem by Robert Frost).

Writing an "I Am" Poem

FIRST GROUP

I am (2 special characteristics you have)

Post-Activity. Consolidating new theme. (time 20 minutes):

Activity 2a Read and say what you think of it.

Interaction pattern: group work

Time: 4 min

Objective: to practise reading/listening for detailed information; to practise expressing opinions.

STEP1. PP read and then listen to the text silently.

STEP 2. Ask them to say what they think about having posters with poems in the underground. They can start their answers with ‘I think/I don’t think it’s a good idea because...’

STEP3. They can write their answers on their posters.

CD Script

This is not the best place for poetry, is it? The London Underground, or the Tube, as people often call it with passengers waiting for trains, changing lines, rushing in and out... London Transport Authority and the Poetry Society do not agree. They decided to have posters with poems in the carriages and on the platforms. Serious and funny, short and long, modern and written long ago, these poems make people smile, forget about their everyday problems and remember how exciting and beautiful life is.
