Внеклассное мероприятие по английскому языку "Love Conquers All"
(Party)
Objectives:
-developing students’ language skills,
-developing creativity in oral skills,
-practicing speaking in dialogues and in monologues,
-teaching to understand and respect other people’s feelings.
Visual and Technical Aids: a tape of the songs, multimedia system , posters with proverbs and epigrams about love
Procedure:
T: Hello, dear friends! I’m very glad to see you! Our today’s party is dedicated to the most wonderful holiday of the year- St. Valentine’s Day. Thank you for your help in searching such wonderful proverbs and epigrams which were once said by different famous people about love. My favorite one is : "Love Conquers All". Let’s start our party.
Sounds the melody of the song “ Only you”. On the background of the music and videoclip masters of the party appear on the stage. The boy greets his partner with flower and they begin the party:
Compere1: Rose are red, my love,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet, my love,
But not as sweet as you.
Compere2: Hello, dear guests!
C1: Hi everybody!
C2: Today we are together because we are young and happy, we are beautiful and full of hopes.
C1 We are eager to love, to speak and to sing about love.
C2 ; Love is an everlasting phenomenon due to which life goes on the planet.
С1: The traditional symbol of secret, silence and love is the rose.
C2: What does it means?
P1: A white rose means : “You are so wonderful!”
P2: A red rose says: “I love you!”
P3: A pink rose : “Please, believe me.”
P4: A rose without thorns means love ‘ At first sight”
C1: The most popular day to give roses is Valentine’s Day.
C2: But where does the holiday come from?
C1: St. Valentine’s Day has roots in several different legends. Here some of them:
P1: Valentine, a Christian, had been thrown in a prison for his teachings. On February,14, Valentine was beheaded. The night before he was executed he wrote the jailer’s daughter a farewell letter, singing it “From your Valentine”
P2: В одной из легенд говорится, что Валентин был христианским священником. За свою учения он был заключен и его казнили 14 февраля. Согласно легенде, он сделал чудо: исцелил дочь священника от слепоты. Перед казнью он написал й письмо, которое подписал «От вашего Валентина».
P3: Another Valentine was Italian bishop who lived at about the same time. He was imprisoned because he secretly married couples, contrary to the laws of the Roman emperor.
P4: В другой легенде говорится, что тот же Валентин был заключен за то, что он тайно венчал влюбленных, хотя это было запрещено законом Римской империи. 14 февраля он был сожжен на костре. С тех пор этот день римляне начали отмечать как праздник избрания любимого или любимой.
C2 : St. Valentine’s Day is now a day for sweethearts. It is the day when you show your friend loved one that you care. You can send candies or you can send roses, the flowers of love. Most people send “valentines’. They can be sentimental, romantic and heartfelt.
C1: В наше время День Святого Валентина - это День влюбленных; в этот день люди многих стран на разных континентах выражают свои чувства любви и привязанности друзьям, родственникам, любимым. Символом этого дня стали ярко-красные сердца, купидоны, стрелы, букеты роз. Конечно же, «валентинки», которые можно купить, а можно сделать своими руками. А это это всегда приятнее.
C2: All of you can make a Valentine cards. Let’s listen and choose the funny valentine and decide whose card is the best?
С1: Сегодня в зале вы можете познакомиться с выставкой лучших «валентинок» и услышать веселые подписи к ним.
February the fourteenth day
It’s Valentine, they say,
I choose you from among the rest,
The reason was I loved you best.
Sure as the grape grows on the vine,
So sure you are my Valentine.
The rose is red, the violet blue,
Lilies are fair and so are you.
I am like a cabbage
Divided into two:
The leaves I give to others
But the heart I give to you.
I know the love of mine will never die

My love for you is as big as elephant…
But so are you?
Here is a special valentine
With lots of love for you.
And since you are very special
Here are hugs and kisses, too!
The rose is red, the violets are blue
The honey is sweet and so are you.
Let me call you sweetheart,
I’m in love with you.
Let me hear you whisper
That you love me too.

C1: The theme of love is very old but at the same time it has been the most actual one in all the times.
С2: The best literary works, the best musical forms, the best poems and songs have been about love.
С1: Dear guests? We are meeting Alexander Pushkin. (На экране появляется портрет А.С.Пушкина).

C2: Love is a beautiful feeling. Love helps people to live, to fight and to win.
C1: History knows a lot of examples of great love.
C2: The best world-known writers and poets devoted their novels, poems and stories to love.
C1: Among them there are English poets.
C2: Can you name the most famous English poets?
( Pupils name W. Shakespeare, R. Burns, G.G. Byron and others.)
C1: Right you are! So let’s begin with Robert Burns. (The portrait of R.Burns on the screen)
C2: During all his life Robert loved one girl named Janny, but couldn’t marry her, because she was rich and he was poor. Robert Burns died when he was only 37, but his works are alive till nowadays.
C1: And now you’ll hear one of Burns’ songs. Trio of girls will sing it.

C2: Who is this very handsome man? ( The portrait of G.G. Byron on the screen)
C1: This is Georg Gorgon Byron, one of the greatest English poets. Unhappy in love, Byron wrote beautiful poems, full of melancholy, sadness and pain. Listen to some of them.
P6: Farewell..
Farewell! If ever fondest prayer,
For other’s weal avail’d on high,
Mine, will not all be lost in air,
But waft thy name beyond the sky.
“T were vain to speak, to weep, to sigh:
Oh1 More than tears of blood can tell,
When wrung from guilt’s expiring eye,

C2: And at last – the greatest poet and dramatist William Shakespeare. William fell in love several times with other women and devoted them his sonnets. ( the portrait of W. Shakespeare on the screen)
C1; He wrote 154 sonnets. Now listen to some of them:
P7: Sonnet 90.
Then hate me when thou wilt, if ever, now
Now while the world is bent my deeds to cross,
Join with the spite of Fortune, make me bow,
And do not drop in for an after-loss.
Ah, do not, when my heart has scaped this sorrow,

C2: Shakespeare wrote 37 plays. One of his famous plays is his immortal story about gentle young love – “Romeo and Juliet”.

P8: In the town of Verona, in Italy, there were 2 rich families, the Capulets and the Montegues. There was an old quarrel between those 2 families and then a Capulet met a Montegue, they always began to fight.

С2: Dear friends! Our party comes to the end. You listened to poems by Shakespeare, Byron, Burns recited by the pupils of the 9th, 10th, 11th forms (names the pupil:
C1: The song “ My love is a red rose” was sung by the girls: (names)
C2: the sonnet 90 was performed by the girls (names):
C1: The scene from “Romeo and Juliet” was acted by : …………………….as Juliet and …………………… as Romeo.
