- Good afternoon, dear friends! Nice to meet you! I am very glad to greet you here in our studio, moreover, I am very proud to see you here as participants of our Jeopardy Game. It is devoted to a mysterious, amazing world, the world of English.

- First of all I’d like to introduce the rules of the game to you. We have 3 teams, consisting of 6 people each. There are 3 rounds, the 1 and 2 consist of 4 sections and the last of 2 sections only. According to their difficulty, each question may bring you from 100 to 500 points in the first round, from 200 to 1000 points in the second round, and from 300 to 1500 points in the third one.

Each team has its own question, but in case the answer is wrong or the team cannot answer the question, the other two teams can give their answer by raising their emblems up first and gain an additional score.

So, if everything is clear to you, take your answer sheets [1] and we are starting right now.

WARM UP. Name a word. You’ll hear a definition or explanation of a word, which is to be said in a word. Listen carefully. You are not given any score.

  • A country ruled by a king or a queen (a kingdom)

  • A large building where criminals are kept (a prison)

  • A tall narrow building either built on its own or forming part of a castle (a tower)

  6. What is the longest river? ( The Severn)

  7. What is the deepest river? (The Thames)

  8. What is the highest mountain in the UK? (Ben Nevis in Scotland)

  9. Who is the national hero of Britain, a defender of the poor people? (Robin Hood)

  10. What is the name of the forest which played an important role in the English history? (Sherwood Forest)

  11. What is the name of the Queen’s official residence in London? (Buckingham Palace)

  12. When did The Great Fire in London take place? (1666)

SIGHTSEEING PLACES

  1. There are four of them on this Tower. Their faces are 22.5 feet in diameter, the small hands are 9 feet long and the large hands are 14 feet. The bell weighs 13.5 tons and the hammer which strikes weighs 8 tons. Name the Tower or, at least, the bell. (The clock tower - Big Ben)

  2. It is in the center of the west end of London. It was built in commemoration of the victorious naval battle of 1805, in which a famous English admiral was fatally wounded (Trafalgar Square, a statue of Lord Nelson in the middle of the square)

  3. This building was a fortress, a palace, a prison, a museum and now it is simply the most famous and most visited historic buildings. According to tradition it is guarded by the Yeoman Warders. (The Tower of London)

  4. It was built in the 18th century and rebuilt later by the architect John Nash. The Royal Standard is flying over this building when the Queen is in the residence. (Buckingham Palace)

  5. This Concert Hall is a circular brick building under a glass-and-metal roof. It is used for concerts, athletics events, for public gatherings and so on. The Hall was built in 1867-1871. (The Royal Albert Hall)

  6. It is a Royal church. The interior décor of it is breathtaking. It seems the walls are made of glass. It has witnessed 38 coronations: the most recent was that of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. (Westminster Abbey)

You are going to listen to popular British singers or bands. In case you give the name of the Singer/Band you get 5 score. You can gain more score if give the name of the song +10 score and 20 score for more info. Eg. Michael Jackson- Thriller, it sold 42 mln copies all over the world, the biggest ever record in the Music World.

T: Now, it’s time for the judges to say a few words about today’s competition. The judges give their feedback. They announce the scores of the teams and say a thank-you-word to the participants.

The teams have got ….. points. Thus you have finished with the score …. in favour of the team …. But you did your best to win! Congratulations to everybody!
