Introduction

My name is Yulya Kopylova. I am 16 years old and I am in the 11^th form. I have two sisters Olesya and Zhenya. I have a mother and a father. They are workers. I would like to live in the world without wars, crises and drugs, in the world in which everybody is happy, has got the job and is glad to live happily. Now the island of stability and peace for me is my native settlement – Pozhva. And I would like to live in the world which is called Pozhva though my native settlement is really not very big and modern. I love my settlement a small piece of my native land very much.

The theme of my creative work is “This place is for those people who are looking for peace and a lovely rural environment!”

The problem of the work is to show all my love to some Pozhva’s places.
The aim of the work is to rise the interest of the people to learn foreign languages and to speak about their native land in a foreign language.
The tasks of the work are
to find the main on the topic “This place is for those people who are looking for peace and a lovely rural environment!” ;
to develop skills and habits of an oral speech on the base of working with the geographical map;
To speak about the World in Which I Would Like to Live;
to form an emotional, a sensational attitude of students to the geographical position of their native parts of the settlement.
The sphere of the investigation is English, the map of Pozhva and its sights.

Welcome to Pozhva!

(the name of the river and the place is of Komi-Permian origin: “pozh” – sieve (решето); “va” – water (вода)
The Full name is Pozhva
Population is 3970 people (on the first of January, 2012)
The District’s centre is Yusva
The Small town is Kudymkar
The Largest city is Perm
Area is 6,5 sq. km.
Major languages are Russian and Komi-Permian

There are shops, schools, libraries, bars, a club and a park in my home-settlement.

There is a beautiful river Kama in my settlement.

We go swimming, and fishing, have family picnics, have fun, and play games near the river.

There is a stadium in my settlement.

There is a supermarket in it. I like to go there and buy sweets.

People in my settlement are friendly and nice.

That is what makes it special – I love it!

The World in Which I Would Like to Live
1. Our Pozhva is also the world of berries!

Our Pozhva is also the world of berries! I would prefer to gather cloudberries, blue bilberries, bilberries, cranberries and red bilberries.

So there are 5 mashes behind the river Kama. They are Sukhanovskoe, Zmeinye Gorky, Proninskiy Bor, Chyortovo and Bear’s.
And there are 5 lakes in Pozhva, which are situated over Kama. They are Lebyazhje, Udyobnoe, Krugloe, Beloe and Gagarje.

I have been in all these mashes with my father. We gathered cloudberries, bluebilberries, bilberries, cranberries and red bilberries there.

The Lake Udyobnoe is a nature object. It is situateed in Yusva district Perm Krai on the left side of the Kama river opposite our Pozhva's plant and the settlement. It is the nearest lake to the Pozhva's inhabitants. One of the most beautiful lakes behind the river Kama. It belongs to Kama's basin.

The lake Udyobnoe is an oblong lake with low and marshy banks. Its water width surface is about100 meters, its length is about 2 kilometers. Its depth is about 7-8 meters. There are mashes from the three parts of the lake. But there is a steady land from the west side of the lake. The name of the lake Udyobnoe came from the word “handy “.

On the one hand this lake is at a short distance from the settlement. And on the other hand the water in the lake is very-very pure. The water is light, liquid, as if it is a spring water. You can cook a fish-soup and boil tea here. The colour of the fish-soup will be an unusual – black because of the colour of the black pearches. But the fish-soup will be very-very tasty, “A real treat”. And at the same time you can gather gifts of the forest – berries such as cloudberries, bluebilberries, bilberries, cranberries and red bilberries.

There is not far from the river Lys. I think that it is called Beloe because of its very wonderful and beautiful white lilies which are grown here. It is also rich of 3black lake perches and such berries as cloudberries, bluebilberries, bilberries, cranberries and red bilberries.
There is the lake Krugloe to the north of the lake Udyobnoe , about three kilometers from it. There is a spring in the Krugloe Lake. It flows from the marsh.

There are gifts of the forest here too.

There are cranberries around the lake Udyobnoe. And there are black lake perches in the lake. There are small, very pure and beautiful lakes behind the lake.

There is the lake Lebyazhje on the north-east hardly to the left of the lake Udyobnoe.
There are cranberries around the lake Lebyazhje. And there are black lake perches in the lake too. The same as in the lake Udyobnoe. Pozhvamen old residents say that swans lived and coupled there, that’s why they called it Lebyazhje.
I think that the lakes Lebyazhje, Udyobnoe, Krugloe, Beloe and Gagarje which is situated behind the Green Island are the most beautiful and mysterious places in Perm Krai!

Vladimir Ivanovitch Starkov – an inveterate hunter and fisherman says that the lakes are situated higher than the water-level of the river Kama. It is considered that they are always calm day and night.

There are wild ducks and gooses on the lakes.

All the lakes behind the river Kama were founded from the old Kama’s river-bed. Sometimes ago there were such fishes as beluga and sturgeon. And there was a sable in the forest.

Pozhva is famous for its history, culture and education!

Pozhva is famous for its history, culture and education. The historians and technicians name it as “a cradle of the home steam-mechanical engineering”. There are a lot of working dynasties in Pozhva. The dynasty of Koryakins, Tyulyaevs, Mikovs, Chudovs, Gudovshchikovs. Pozhvamen are well-mannered people, conservative, practical, realistic, prudent, careful, greatest milk drinkers, countrymen at heart, with a good sense of humour,

serious, rather inventive and somewhat mystical, emotional but sometimes reticent. I can’t imagine my life without them and without their dishes.

I would like to live in the place which the growth and development inseparably linked with the growth and development of the metallurgical works. The plant was built in Pozhva in 1754. It is 255 years old. The plant won the wide reputation in the first part of the 19^th century under the leadership of the new owners-princes Vsevolozhskikhs, when the native masters assimilated the making of the steam-engines and their use for the mechanization of the water and land transport. The first two Russia’s steamers were built in Pozhva in 1817 under the home drawings. The famous scientist Sobolevskiy P. G. leaded the construction. The system of gas-light was also assembled in 1816 in autumn in the departments of the plant much more earlier than in Moscow and St. Petersburg. And I am proud of this fact. The first Pozhva’s and Russian’s railway locomotive was presented in St. Petersburg in 1828. The model of which is kept in the State Hermitage. Then the workers of Pozhva assimilated the output of the thinnest sheet metal rolling – the highest achievement of the Russian sheet metal rollers of that time. The production of the engineering work was sent to all directions of the country and even to foreign countries. For example to London. The roof of one of the palaces in London was covered with Pozhva’s iron.

And a church is a beautiful monument of the past too which was built in 1865 by the project of Voronikhin in the style of high classicism. The cast-iron flagstone of the artist castings; an open-worked fence of the Temple are the manufactured articles of the native skilled craftsmen-casters. I would like to go to Saint-Trinity Temple with my children. 5

Pozhva is famous not only for its industrial traditions but its cultural ones too. The Vsevolozhskiy’s serf theatre was one of the best theatres of that time. The industrial, office and professional workers founded their amateur theatre in 1917 before the revolution. Besides that there were a number of musical and vocal societies. The worker’s club was founded in Pozhva in 1918. And the activities of Pozhva’s Palace of Culture conducts an account from its foundation. Thanks to the fact that Pozhva is consider to be the cultural capital of Yusva district. So it is so nice to know the history of your native settlement.

The history of my settlement is closely connected with the history of our Motherland. And it is also rich as the history of London. I am proud of it. I would like my children to be proud of Pozhva too.

In the centre of my settlement there are shops, a library with a museum and a reading-room in it, a kinder-garden, a sanatorium, a post-office, a music school, a garden, a club and a church. There are several monuments to the heroes of the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War. There was the first school in Pozhva. It is 215 years. We are proud of our school - leavers. I love my school very much. I would like my children to study in this school too.

The geographical description of Gora I; Gora II and Kapustnoe

Now I’m going to describe some places of Pozhva. Such as Gora I; Gora II and Kapustnoe.

Gora I is in the centre of my settlement. It stretches from the river Ratanka up to the Sovetskaya street in the south-west of Pozhva.

There are shops, a library with a museum and a reading-room in it, a kinder-garden “Beryozka”, a Fire Brigade, a post-office, a music school, a garden, a club, a bank.

There is a church a beautiful monument of the past which was built in 1865 by the project of Voronikhin in the style of high classicism.

There are several monuments to the participants of the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War.

There are such streets as Lugovaya, Oktyabrskaya, Lenina, Elymanskaya, Gorskaya, Gogolya, Sovetskaya and others.

To the east of Gora I there is Gora II.

There are fields and a forest in the north of Gora I.

I am proud of my settlement. I would like my children to be proud of Pozhva too.

Gora II is situated to the east of Gora I.

There is the first school in Pozhva. It is 215 years. We are proud of our school - leavers. I love my school very much. I would like my children to study in this school too.

There are shops there too.

There are such streets there as Sovetskaya, Karla Marksa, Matrosova, Chapaeva, Shkolnaya, Yamskaya, Torgovaya, Mayakovskogo, Mira and Lermontova.

There is a cemetery in the north-east of Gora II.

Gora II is surrounded by fields and woods. The countryside around this place is green, with fertile fields and rich vegetation. 7

I like this part of our settlement very much.

Kapustnoe is another part of Pozhva. It is a habitable part of the settlement. It has got only houses here.

It is situated on the left bank of the river Pozhva in the south of the settlement. There is a forest in the south-east of Kapustnoe. It is a quiet place with the houses and some parts of the streets. The countryside around this place is green, with fertile fields and rich vegetation.

There are 3 streets in this part of the settlement. They are Elymanskaya, Lenina and Mayakovskogo.

To the south-west of Kapustnoe flows a wide and clear river Kama. The river is lovely for swimming. The fishing is said to be excellent, too.

To the south –west of Kapustnoe there is Gora I with its different sights.

To the north of Kapustnoe there is Gora II.

There are the summer residents in this part of the country too.

I like this part of our settlement very much. This place is for those people who are looking for peace and a lovely rural environment.

Conclusion

So I have finished the work the theme of which is “This place is for those people who are looking for peace and a lovely rural environment!”

I have described three parts of Pozhva: Gora I; Gora II and Kapustnoe.

There are some photos in the creative work about Gora I; Gora II and Kapustnoe. I wrote about the streets and houses of these places. I and my friends made a visit card of Pozhva for our contest.

We translated into English the material about the Pozhva’s Coat-of-arms
of the Pozhva’s Rural Settlement of Yusva Municipal District.

We found the information about different maps of Pozhva such as The Sputnik’s Map of Pozhva, the GPS’s Map, the Vector’s Map, the Cadastral’s Map, the Topography’s Map, the Interactive Map of Pozhva and the Map of Pozhva which is drawn by Irina Andreevna Gudovshchikova. It is in the Pozhva’s Fire brigade. It is large. There are all places of Pozhva there such as: Ratanka, Gora 1,Gora 2, Kapustnoe, Lyskovo and Lempikha. It is the most suitable one to describe the geographical position of Pozhva.

We love Pozhva very much! Especially we like swimming, boating and fishing there with our friends and our relatives!

To my mind, you love our native settlement too.
