Each student gets a sheet of paper with a square chart (3x3, 4x4 or 5x5) prepared beforehand. Each cell of the chart contains a statement that can describe someone of the group. The goal of the learners is to wander around the room and to get the signatures of classmates that can be described with the facts listed on the sheet. It’s important that a person can sign someone’s chart only once. A person who successfully obtains a full row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) shouts “BINGO!” and wins.

BINGO!

Tips:

  1. YL should be given some grammar tips on general questions before they start fulfilling the task.

  2. To make the assignment visual some words can be substituted with pictures. The teacher may ask learners to match them with the words at first (see below).

  3. To avoid mess with little children and to make sure everyone participates, the teacher can use a signal meaning “Change partner!” every 30 sec – 1 min.

  4. It’s great when a teacher also participates that motivates students and works for the teacher’s authority. :)

  5. To conclude the activity students (or the winner) can present people whose signatures they got or those who surprised them the most and so on.

Objectives:

  • to develop a skill of asking and answering general questions;

  • to activate/consolidate vocabulary;

  • to encourage interaction.


Approaches: visual, auditory, left-brain.


Time: 7-10 minutes

Preparation: elaborating the chart, printing it out coloured, one for each student.
