“Take a Trip along the Thames”

Цель урока: расширение кругозора учащихся о стране изучаемого языка

а) формирование и развитие навыков исследовательской деятельности учащихся;

б) совершенствование умения и навыков практического владения английским языком.

Образовательные задачи:

1. Развивать умения в составлении предложений по прослушанному;

2. Развивать способности к догадке;

3. Практиковать внимание и память.

Воспитательные задачи:

1. Воспитывать уважение к различным государствам;

2. Воспитывать интерес и уважение к истории государств;

3. Воспитывать гордость к собственной стране.

Лингвистические задачи:

1. Формировать интерес обучающихся к стране изучаемого языка;

2. Познакомить с различными историческими и культурными данными.

Оборудование урока: магнитофон с диском, интерактивная доска, мультимедийный проектор, презентации, раздаточный материал.

1. Организационный момент.

Good morning, boys and girls! I am glad to see you here. Today I invite you to mare a journey around the Thames and to know some facts about London’s sights. I want you to understand how beautiful and wonderful the capital of the United Kingdom is. Besides, I’d like you to remember the best Russian sights.

But first of all I'd like you to pronounce some words from the page “Culture corner”. Be very attentive and try to remember them, because they are of a great importance. First of all repeat them after me, and then repeat after your classmates.

And now students, look at the leaflet which is given in Ex. 1 p 93. How do you think what this leaflet is about? Yes, right you are. They are about different tourists attractions along the river Thames. Call me please the names of these attractions. Didn’t you forget about the London Aquarium and St Paul’s Cathedral? I think you have noticed some new words here. Looking at the sheets of paper, try to find out Russian equivalents to the unknown words.

• Beefeaters – бифитеры, стражники (guards) Тауэра, традиционно носящие средневековую униформу. Согласно ( according to) одной из легенд бифитеры впервые появились (appear) XV веке при Генрихе VIII и отвечали за королевский буфет. Отсюда и (so) произошло название “(boufitiers - буфетчики). По другой легенде “beefeaters” означает (means ) «поедатели говядины». Охранники Тауэра получили это прозвище (nickname) во времена, когда они ежедневно получали пиво (beer) и говядину (beef). Поскольку такая (as such) еда была роскошью (luxury) для бедняков (the poor), они презрительно (scornfully) называли охранников beefeaters. В настоящее время 38 бифитеров встречают гостей Тауэра, водят (make) экскурсии, фотографируются (be photographed) с туристами и кормят воронов (crow).

The Winter Palace was built between 1754 and 1762 as the winter home of the Russian tsars. It has 1786 doors and 1945 windows. In 1917 it was attacked during the October revolution. It is home to the Hermitage Museum which holds one of the world’s greatest collections of arts.

The State Russian Museum in the Mikhailovsky Palace is the largest art gallery containing Russian art in the city. It was opened in 1895.

Saint Isaac’s Cathedral is the largest cathedral in the city and was the largest church in Russia when it was built. It is 101.5 meters high. It took 40 years to build and opened in 1858. It is very richly decorated inside.

The Peter and Paul Fortress is an old fortress and prison, which was built in 1703. It contains some churches where many of Russia’s tsars are buried. It is now a museum.
