British Traditions

Цель: совершенствование умений говорения на основе текста для чтения.

Задачи:

• познакомить с существующими британскими традициями

• развивать умение читать, перефразировать текст, задавать вопросы и отвечать на них

• формировать способность к работе в группе

Ход урока:

I. Teacher- Hello, boys and girls. I’m very glad to see you. Let’s begin our work.

First look at the blackboard and read all these phrases all together.

(Ученики хором прочитывают первый столбик)

Teacher- Now you should make sentences, concerning different traditions.

Students-_______ (составляют возможные предложения)

Teacher- Thank you. Today we’ll speak about some more British traditions.

You’ll work in groups, read some texts, discuss them and answer the questions. Let’s begin.

II. Класс делится на три группы, каждая получает свой текст и инструкцию по работе с ним.

Группа работает с текстом в течение 10 минут.

III. Teacher- Now we’ll play a little and combine all the information.

So, let’s play the auction.

Each group is given 100$ credit. You may buy the answer to the questions and get more money. (группы отвечают на предложенные вопросы, не пользуясь текстом)

First- open questions. You get the question and then buy the right to answer.

Pancake Race

One of the main events of Shrove Tuesday in Buckinghamshire is the pancake race. This race is said to have been first run there in 1445.

The competitors are mostly women who live nearby. The rules require them to wear aprons and to cover their heads with a hat.

The distance to be run is from the village square to the church, about 450 yards (411, 5 metres).

The pancakes have to be tossed three times during the race.

At the church door, the Vicar waits to greet the women and to give the winner a prayer-book as a prize.

Mothering Sunday

Mid-Lent Sunday, the fourth in Lent, has more than one name, but for English people the best-known of these names is Mothering Sunday. For three centuries Mother’s day has been the day of family reunion when adult children come back to their homes, and gifts are made to mothers by their children of all ages.

The traditional mothering-gifts are flowers and cakes.

Sometimes the whole family goes to church together and there is a special dinner.

May Spring Festival

The 1^st of May is a spring festival. In ancient times it used to be celebrated with flowers, dancing and games in the village green. The girls put on their best summer dresses. The most beautiful girl was crowned with a garland of flowers.

Nowadays the May Queen is usually a girl elected by her friends.

Every year visitors from many parts of the world gather in Kent to watch the crowning of London’s May Queen. It is the largest May Queen Festival in Britain and over a 1000 children take part in it. The date is the second Saturday in May. The Festival has been held since 1880.
