І Introduction

T. Good morning, dear children!

We often get tired of the same surrondings and daily routine. That's why, the best way to spend free time is to travel.

II Warming-up

T. There are a lot of proverbs about travelling. I have some of them too. But they are cut into two parts. You may stand up and find another part of the proverb.

He that travels far knows much.

East or West home is best.

There is no place like home.

Travelling is one way of lenthening life.

A change is as good as rest.

A wise companion is half the journey.

III Brainstorming

T. Why do people travel?

Ps. They want to visit new countries.

They like to rest in different countries.

Very often people travel on business.

They like to receive new impressions.

People have money and time.

  1. What do you think when you hear the word travelling?

luggage business

weather new countries

IV Listening

T. When people want to go somewhere they need a lot of information. They need to know the date and the day of their departure, the things they have to take with them and so on. And, of course, one of the most important things is the weather forecast for the day or some days, or even for a week.

We know what the weather is like in this country. But it will be useful for us to know the weather forecast for Great Britain. Attention please!

Listen to the British Telecom weather forecast. And then say whether we have to take umbrellas or, perhaps, sunglasses with us.

Weather Forecast

It is the British Telecom weather forecast for the United Kingdom for today until midnight. Most of the country will start today cloudy with some light rain and drizzle. All over Northern England some heavier rains are expected during the afternoon. All over Southern England there will be patches of foggy times. It will be another mild day with temperature generally higher than yesterday.

  1. What will the weather be in Great Britain?

Ps. Cloudy with some light rain; foggy; the temperature will be higher than yesterday.

P. The weather in England is changeable.

V Reading

T. Well, it is more pleasant to travel in fine weather. It is not very pleasant to travel on foot or by bicycle when the weather is bad. You will feel more comfortable if you travel by train, bus or a car.

Now, you have to read some information and fill in the gaps with the words.

  • Travelling … is quick and comfortable.

  • Travelling … you are sure to get pleasure and to enjoy comfort.

  • Travelling … you can stop when and where you want and watch beautiful scenes.

  • Travelling … is very tiring.

  • Travelling … is cheap. It’s not at all expensive. All you need is to book a ticket and to get on the right train.

  • Travelling … you can enjoy fresh sea air and admire the beauty of Nature.

  • Travelling … is fascinating. But it’s not pleasant if the weather is bad or you fly above the clouds.

  • Travelling … is not at all troublesome. You’re sure to have a good time and to enjoy safety. But it’s not pleasant if you ride on a bumpy road.

  • Travelling … is good for health and cheap. All you need is a rucksack. But it’s not pleasant if you got lost.

  • Travelling … is fantastic. But it’s hateful if you’re sea-sick.

  • Travelling … is not at all dangerous. You’re sure to take pleasure and to enjoy safety. But it’s not pleasant if your companion is a bore.

VII Reading

T. We spoke about different ways of travelling. In the next task you will find five ways of travelling. Try to guess what way do people travel in different situations. You have some minutes to read the information and write short answers.

  1. It is very quick way of travelling. You can get from one town to another in almost no time. The seats are comfortable. Sometimes you cannot see anything through the window, only the sky and the clouds. When it rains very hard, you can’t travel by it.

  2. This way of travelling is rather quick. You can start your journey when you like, stopping at any place you like and go where you like. You don’t buy tickets, you only buy gas and can go. Usually families travel by it.

  3. Young people, students and schoolchildren like to travel like this. They don’t buy tickets and don’t use any transport. They put on sport shoes and trainers, or jeans and T-shirts, take their rucksacks with them and go. Usually they walk through the countryside or to the forests, live in tents and cook on the campfire.

  4. This way of travelling is fast. You need to buy a ticket at the booking-office and pack your suitcase. But look at your watch in order not to be late.

  5. This way of travelling is not very fast, but very pleasant. You don’t travel on land, you move by water. Some people don’t like to travel like this, because they become sea-sick. This is a very nice way of travelling in summer. You can enjoy sea gulls, waves and fresh air.

VIII Singing a song

T. You have worked hard. Are you tired? If you are, let’s have a short rest. I want you to listen to the song and tick the types of transport in it, firstly.

Did you like the song?

Let’s sing it together.

I’m driving in a car

I’m driving in a car

I’m driving in a car

I’m driving in a car

Over the mountains

Through the trees

Travel the world

And the seven seas

I’m sailing on a ship

I’m sailing on a ship

I’m sailing on a ship

I’m sailing on a ship

I’m sailing on a ship

I’m driving in a car

Over the mountains

Through the trees

Travel the world

And the seven seas

I’m travelling on a train

I’m travelling on a train

I’m travelling on a train

I’m travelling on a train

I’m sailing on a ship

I’m driving in a car and

Over the mountains

Through the trees

Travel the world

And the seven seas

I’m riding on a horse

I’m riding on a horse

I’m riding on a horse

I’m riding on a horse

I’m riding on a horse

I’m riding on a horse

I’m travelling on a train

I’m sailing on a ship

I’m driving in a car and

Over the mountains

Through the trees

Travel the world

And the seven seas

Over the mountains

Through the trees

Travel the world

And the seven seas

IX Group work

T. Before travelling anywhere we have to buy a ticket.

Now, I’ll divide you into two groups.

Group 1

You are at the airport. You want to travel. But you have no tickets. You don’t know where the booking office is. Your task is to ask somebody the way.

Group 2

You are at the booking office. You want to buy a ticket. Act out this situation.

X Reading travel tips

T. Children, do you know any travel tips?

Lets remember some of them.

  1. Don’t travel in anything tight, a tracksuit or loose skirt and trousers are best.

  2. Take fresh fruit and mineral water with you.

  3. Relax. Take new magazines to read. Enjoy a joke and laugh with your friends. Stretch your legs if you can.

  4. Sit comfortably.

  5. Don’t drink tap water.

  6. Wash your hands as often as you can on your trip.

XI Summarizing(microphone)

T. Did you like our lesson?

Have you learned sometimes new?

Do you often travel?

What kind of transport do you prefer?

While travelling?

Which is the quickest way of travelling?

Which is the most comfortable for you?

What countries would you like to go?

Do you like poems? Poems about travelling?

I have a very nice poem about travelling. Let’s read it together.

Travelling

Planes are quicker than the trains.

Trains are cheaper than the planes.

I like travelling on foot —

It makes healthy me and good.

If you want to travel fast,

Take a train, a plane, a bus.

If want to be in time —

Always choose the air line.

If you visit farthest land,

Book your ticket beforehand.

If you want in time to turn —

Book not single, but return.

If you want to go far,

Then you need a sleeping car.

If you want to sleep at first

You may take the upper berth.

If you have a little snack —

In a hurry go back:

Someone can your luggage steal

While you have your tasty meal.

You can see at railway station

Passengers of any nation.

They will travel, to my mind,

In carriages of any kind.

If you go on vocation,

Go to the railway station;

Try to take a fast express —

You’ll be safe in it, not stressed.

XII Hometask

T. Dear pupils. You worked well. I wish you have nice and pleasant journeys. At home, write a letter to your friend sharing impressions of your last travelling. Tell him what you liked most of all, what you disliked and why.
