FLASHCARDS 12-17

Put the flashcards into one pile. Go around the classroom and ask individual pupils to choose two or three flashcards and then ask them to name them .

  • Presentation and practice (Activities to present and activate the new language.)

Poster

Pupil’s book closed. Put up the “My Pets” poster on the board. Point to each animal (rabbit, fish, cat, dog, and mouse), one at a time , and present them. The pupils repeat, chorally and/or individually. Point to each animals in random order. Ask individual pupils to say the words. Ask the rest of the class for verification. Elicit/Present the word pet.

  • Pupils books open. Play the CD. The pupils listen, point to the pictures and repeat the words. Play the CD again pausing after each word. The pupils repeat , chorally and/or individually.

  • Complete. Point and say.

Refer the pupils to the pictures and explain the activity. Allow the pupils some time to complete the activity. After the pupils have completed the activity, ask them to point to each word and say it out loud. Refer the pupils to the boy holding the cat and say: This is my pet. It’s a cat. The pupils repeat after you. Ask the pupils to point to each pet and present each one in the sentence at the bottom of their Pupil’s Book for help. Check their answers. Suggested answer key:

This is my pet. It’s a fish.

This is my pet. It’s a mouse.

  • Sing the My toys song

Point to the dog and say: This is my dog! Woof! Woof! The pupils repeat after you. Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song.

Play the CD. The pupils listen to the song. Play the song again. The pupils sing along.

  • Extension activity.

Present another verse using another pet and the noise it makes for the pupils to sing. Pupils in pairs choose an animal and make up their own verse.

  • Set the scene by asking the pupils questions about what they can see in the pictures.

Teacher: (Pointing to picture) Who is in the pet shop?

Class: Lilly, Liam, Charlie, and a girl.

Teacher: (Pointing to the picture) What is this?

Class: A fish.

Play the CD and ask the pupils to listen and follow along in their books.

  • Tick.

Explain the activity. The pupils look at the pictures, read the dialogue silently and tick the pictures of the animals that appear in the dialogue. Allow the pupils some time to complete the activity. Check their answers.

Play the CD again pausing for the pupils to repeat, chorally or individually. Assign roles and ask individual pupils to read the dialogue out loud.

Answer: fish and Charlie .

Ending

(An activity to consolidate the language of the lesson)

  • Animal Home

Tell the pupils that they will draw an animal home. In groups, the pupils are assigned an animal, e.g. cat, dog, fish, rabbit, mouse ect. They draw a home for each of the animals , (blow for the fish.) The pupils then present the animals’ homes to the rest of the class. Make sure you display their work somewhere in the classroom.
