  1. Organization moment.  Good morning dear children. We’ve got an unusual lesson today—a tour around London. We are going to speak about London and its most famous sights. Our lesson is divided into several parts. We shall speak about our dream vacation, about advantages and disadvantages of travelling, about London, its history and traditions. So, let’s begin our lesson.

II.        Brainstorming.   First of all, let’s speak about your dream vacation. Where do you want to go? What do you want to see? And with whom do you want to go? Use the table and speak:

Every year a lot of people from different countries all over the world travel abroad for their holidays. What do you think about tourism? Share your opinions about travelling.

Teacher: And today we, sitting at home, in Kazakhstan, can make a sightseeing tour to the United Kingdom. We shall speak about the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is London. On the map you can see that London is situated on the River Thames. First of all let’s read the words that help us at the lesson.

VI. Reading Comprehension Teacher: Now, children, you see London is situated on the river Thames. It is the most important river in Great Britain. Let’s read the text about this river.

The Thames.

1. The Thames in London is very famous of course. You can travel by boat along the river and see the famous London sights, like Tower Bridge, Big Ben and the new London Eye. It’s a great way to see London quickly!

2. Lots of people have holidays near the Thames or on the Thames—and never go near London! The “young” Thames flows through very beautiful places and you can go fishing, swimming or boating.

3. There are pictures and stories of people skating on the Thames in London in the winter—but these days the Thames never freezes. It’s still a great place to have fun.

VII. Listening Comprehension.

Teacher: Well, my friends. We see you know the history of London very well. And now we are going to read the text about London. Look at the screen and listen to the text. But first read the following words after the speaker:

Huge—огромный, громадный Immigrant—имигрант

Especially—особенно Sights—вид, зрелище

Attract—привлеать Attention—внимание

Listen to the text: London.

London is not only the capital and the largest city of the United Kingdom, it is also a huge port, one of the world’s greatest commercial centers, a science city, and the seat of the British Government. Its population is about eight and a half million.

London is a multinational city, with a large immigrant population from Britain’s colonies especially from South Asia and West Indies.

London is a great educational and cultural center. The most important parts of London are the City of London, the East End, the West End and Westminster.

The City is the oldest part of London and it’s the commercial center of London, and London’s most important firms and banks have their offices there.

The City and the West End are the heart of the capital. Here the visitors will find all the most interesting buildings, theatres, movie houses, museums, picture galleries, shops, offices and galleries.

London has many great and wonderful sights, which attract the attention of thousands of people from every part of the world. There are many beautiful buildings in London and among them are the Houses of Parliament, the Bank of England, the British Museum. Museums and galleries are world known too, among them, the National Gallery, the Tate Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Westminster is the next part of London. There one can see the Westminster Palace, the Westminster Abbey and the Clock tower with the Great bell — Big Ben.

VIII. Role play: A sightseeing tour around London.

Teacher: Well done. I see you understand the text very well. And you do the tasks excellently. Now we begin our sightseeing tour around London.

IX. Test about London

Teacher: Well, children we have learnt much about London. Now let’s have a test to check your knowledge. It is about London and it sights. Match the pictures and their description.

X. Grammar practice:

Computing, listening to music, watching TV, playing football, going in for sports,

collecting coins, doing aerobics, dancing, fishing, hiking, sewing, reading books

X.Conclusion: We live in the RK. It is a beautiful land. It is the country of free people. Many nations live in peace. Kazakh people love their country and they are proud of its beauty, history and literature, culture and science. They respect their traditions and customs. Let us remember proverbs about love to our Motherland. You can say it in your native language and give English and Russian equivalents.
