AIM – make up your own story
Good morning! Sit down, please. Today we continue our talking about art. We’ll speak about the ancient architecture and sculpture. Let’s remember what ancient civilizations you know.
That’s right. Today we are going to talk about the Seven Wonders of the World. The first reference to the Seven Wonders was found in the History of Herodotus as long ago as the 5th century BC. Seven was considered a magic number by the Greeks.
The final list of the Seven Wonders was completed during the Middle Ages. Six of the Seven Wonders have not survived to the present day having been destroyed by natural disasters or by humans.
At home you’ve done the reports devoting to the Seven Wonders. (Ученики дома самостоятельно готовили сообщения по плану из таблицы. Источники: Интернет, энциклопедииит.д.)Today we’ll make a travelling to the Ancient world and try to know more about these wonders. You’ll be both tourists and guides. Before the travelling let’s think of worlds which can be useful for description any building.
For example: The building can be huge or tiny. What else? Write down several words during 1 minute.
Your next task is to listen to your classmates and make notes in the table which were handed out to you. Look at the table. While listening you should complete it with facts. Later you’ll use them in your story. Now let’s check up the pronuciation of proper names and begin our travelling. Repear after me.
OK. Let’s begin our travelling to ancient Egypt. You will answer my question after each report. Be attentive, please. Please, girls, you are welcome

(They were created for Neduchadnezzar’s wife because she was homesick)

Pp 7. The Lighthouse of Alexandria

(It was destroyed by the earthquake and then the ramains were used for building of the fort)
Thank you very much. Our travelling was very interesting and cognitive. Now you’ll work in pairs and imagine that one of the Wonders, exepting, of course, the Pyramids could have been saved from destruction. Which one would you choose to save and why? Think of it for five minutes, use your notes in the tables and say what wonder deserves to be saved. But remember to leave out the Wonder about which you have told.
