План урока английского языка в 5 классе (углубленный уровень)


Тема/проблема: Holidays. Before Christmas.

Речевые функции: giving information, expressing ideas, correcting each other.

Цель урока (образовательная): к концу занятия учащиеся могут использовать лексический материал по теме занятия для того, чтобы рассказать про традиции празднования Рождества в странах изучаемого языка, способны поддержать диалог о национальных праздниках Беларуси и Великобритании; принять или отклонить предложение поучаствовать в рождественской вечеринке; умеют аргументировать свою точку зрения и анализировать полученную от собеседников информацию.

Задачи урока:

  • учебный аспект: активизация и автоматизация знаний и первичных лексических умений и навыков по теме занятия;

  • познавательный аспект: совершенствование знаний о традициях и праздниках Родины и стран изучаемого языка; овладение нормами речевого этикета и техникой общения друг с другом;

  • воспитательный аспект: формирование навыков совместной работы в паре/группе, развитие умения слушать и слышать друг друга;

  • развивающий аспект: развитие памяти, внимания, формирование ассоциативных связей, развитие умений использовать мимику и жесты.


Сопутствующие задачи: Совершенствование познавательных навыков. Формирование орфографических навыков.

Лексический материал: to put an angel, a fireplace, to hang stockings, to sing carols, tinsel, lights, an ornament, a snowman, to pull crackers.

Грамматический материал: 1) предлоги времени с названиями праздников, времени суток и дней недели; 2) совершенствование активных грамматических навыков использования временных форм the Present Perfect, the Present Simple, the present Continuous, the Past Simple и the Future Simple в речи.

Оснащение: 1.Англ. яз. уч. для 5 класса по англ. яз. (Л.М. Лапицкая, Минск «Вышэйшая школа», 2014);

2.Раздаточный материал, доска;

- Good morning, children! It’s very nice to see you all. How do you feel today? Look out of the window, please. What can you say about today’s weather? (Ученики высказывают свое мнение о погоде, используя уже изученную лексику с конструкцией Its rainy/ windy/ foggy/ etc. today!).

What other words can we use to describe weather?

Have a look at the blackboard. Describe the weather in the pictures. Pay attention to the time adverbials given. (На доске под номерами 1-6 расположены картинки с изображениями разных типов погод, возле каждой time adverbials: since Monday, tomorrow, three days ago, now, lately, yesterday. Учитель бросает ученикам по очереди кубик, какая цифра попадает, под таким номером картинку ученик и описывает. For example: It has been foggy since Monday.)

- I see that the majority of your winter associations are connected with winter holidays. What are the main winter holidays?

- We celebrate holidays in every month. Some holidays are international (people celebrate them all over the world), some holidays are national (they are celebrated in one country only). I want to see what holidays you know. Let’s play a game. I stick papers with the name of a month to your foreheads, you should guess the month after your classmates give you a hint. They will tell you what holiday people celebrate in this month. (Игра: ученики по очереди поворачиваются к классу, одноклассники говорят им предложения типа: When do people celebrate Fools Day? – In April.)

- Thank you. Let’s talk further about holidays. At home I asked you to read and study some short texts about British holidays. Now I will show you the pictures, you have to guess the holiday and to tell us what you remember about its celebration in Britain.

T. Dear Snegurochka, tell us, please about Christmas traditions abroad.


Sn. Christmas Day is on the 25th of December. It is the greatest holiday in Britain. English people celebrate this holiday with big dinners. Children have a lot of fun. They play under Christmas trees, find presents in their Christmas stockings, eat Christmas pudding, watch pantomimes. The grown-ups don’t work on that day.

Christmas Eve is on the 24th of December. On this day everybody is very busy and in a hurry. Offices close at 1 o?clock , but the shops stay open late.On Christmas Eve children hang their Christmas stockings on their beds. They wait for Father Christmas and other miracles.

Yuletide begins in the middle of December and ends on the 6th of January. All the children like this wonderfull time because it is the time of much fun. 
A Yule Log is a piece of wood which people burn in the fireplace on Christmas Eve.


Traditionally people put their Christmas presents into boxes. A Christmas box is wrapped in bright coloured paper with ribbons.

That is why the day on which people give and receive Christmas boxes and Christmas cards is called Boxing Day.

Boxing Day comes after Christmas Day. It is on the 26th of December. People don?t work on that day. They visit friends or go to the theatre.

Sn. Christmas Cards

Every English family sends and receives many Christmas cards. Traditionally there is a robin on almost every card. And you know already that a robin is a Christmas bird. Sometimes there is a bunch of holly on the Christmas card. You can read on the card: “Merry Christmas!”


Many years ago postmen had bright red coats. They looked like robins. At Christmas they brought many Christmas cards. And people began to think about a robin as a Christmas bird. You can see it on almost every Christmas card.


Christmas tree decoration

People began to celebrate Christmas many, many years ago. They decorate Christmas tree with tinsel, toys, shining balls and flags. They placed a large shining star at the top of the Christmas tree and many bright shining balls (red, blue, yellow, green, silver) from top to bottom.

House Decorations

It’s a tradition to decorate the house at Christmas. There are some special decorations for this holiday.

Holly is an evergreen plant with sharp-pointed leaves and red berries. People put holly on Christmas pudding. They also decorate their homes. It is a very old tradition. Many years ago people began to put holly in their homes during the dark cold winters. They liked to look at holly and think about spring and the sun.

Misteltoe is an evergreen plant with small leaves and small white berries. On Christmas Eve there is a bunch of mistletoe in every house. Under this bunch boys kiss girls.


People like to light candles. If there are children in the family, they often have Cristmas crackers. When you pull a cracker it makes a bang and inside there is usually a Christmas hat, a small toy and a piece of paper with a joke on it.

Before Christmas children make small flags. On these flags they paint British, American, French, German, Finnish and other flags. They hang Christmas flags on the Christmas tree or decorate the room with them.


Christmas menu

Christmas pudding was first made many, many years ago. Now it is the highlight of Christmas dinner. Children often put holly on the pudding. Traditionally a coin is placed into the pudding. It brings luck to a person who finds it.


People also eat a turkey for Christmas dinner. A turkey is a traditional Christmas bird. 
The dinner ends with mince pies. Mince pies are small round pies. Children like these sweet pies very much.
