Темаурока: «A trip to London»
Objectives:
1. To develop communicative skills and activities using various kinds of activities.
2. To encourage and broaden students’ outlook.
3. To mobilize the full range of students experience.
Audience: a group of 11-12 year old students.
Approximate time: 45 minutes.
Equipment: presentation, crossword, lists of questions, ancient chest, chocolate coins, set of magnets, felt tip pens.
T: Good afternoon, dear children and guests. I am glad to see you!
Today we are going to have a trip to London. But first of all let’s train our tongues. Repeat after me:
Don’t cry bitterly and go to Italy
Don’t miss your chance and go to France
Take your pen and go to Japan
Buy some cheese and go to Greece.
Now say as quickly as you can. (The students do their best)
I know that you like reading books. In the book “Treasure Island” by Louis Stevenson one of the pirates whose name was Flint had buried some treasure. One part of the treasure was found by Captain Silver. But the other part of it hasn’t been found yet. I know that it is in the British Isles. It is hidden in London.
Let’s do the crossword. If you work it out and read the letters from top to bottom, you will see where the treasure is in London.

During our trip to London we’ll have some stops at different stations. The names of the stations you can see on the blackboard.
The first station is “Mail”. The English students have sent some letters for you. So I give you the envelopes. You are to open them, read the questions and answer.

The next stop is “Places of interest.” Look at the multimedia blackboard, name the place of interest and say all you can about it. (Slide show: Houses of parliament, Stonehenge, Big Ben, London tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, The Thames, Madame Tussaud’s Museum, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, St.Paul’s Cathedral, The London Eye, Tower of London, White Tower, British Museum, Westminster Abby, National Gallery, Hyde Park.)
The next stop is “Famous British people.” Look at the blackboard. Using the magnets, match the names of famous British people and the works of art or inventions they had made.

The next stop is “At the airport” Now we are in London. You meet English children. Make up dialogues in your groups.

Big Ben has struck one. It’s time to have lunch. So, let’s go to the Café. Nuribek and Temirlan, last lesson I gave you the menu and you were to order something. Come out to the blackboard, please.
The next stop is “London Zoo”. The Zookeeper wants to know what proverbs about animals you know.
Group 1 , I give you the list of proverbs about animals. You are to read them, discuss in your group and give Russian equivalents.

I see that you know proverbs very good and now let’s recite the poem ”A naughty pig” for our Zookeeper.
Our next stop is “Hyde Park”. London’s Hyde Park is one of the greatest parks of the world. You can enjoy swimming, boating, cycling and skating there. Let’s have rest in the park and solve the riddles.

So we are closer to the Thames and our next stop is “The Tower of London”. The ravens won’t let us pass by if you don’t surprise them. I give you 5 minutes. You are to compose a 5-lined rhyme.

Now we are near the Tower Bridge. We have found the treasure. The treasure is English- the language you study here in our lycee and the knowledge you get here. But besides, we have found the chocolate treasure. (The teacher opens the ancient chest and gives chocolate coins to her pupils.)
