I am glad to see you! Take your seats, please! How are you today? Who is absent today? What’s the matter with him/her? Look at the blackboard, please: “A sound mind in a sound body”, give the Russian equivalent of this statement. Say whether you agree or not with this statement and give your reasons. (Children give their points of view). Thank you for your interesting answers. Today we are going to discuss one of the most popular spheres of life “Sport”. We are going to discuss it’s role in every person’s life, it’s influence on people. We’ve already spoken with you about different sports and now I want you to guess what sport I am talking about: 1) It is a game played between two teams of eleven players who kick a ball around a field in an attempt to score goals (football). 2) It is a game played by two teams of nine players. Each player from one team hits a ball with a bat and then tries to run round all four bases before the other team can get the ball back (baseball). 3) It is a game in which two teams of five players each try to score goals by throwing a large ball through a circular net fixed to a metal ring at each end of the court (basketball). 4) It is a game played by two or four players on a rectangular court. They use rackets to hit a ball over a net which is between them (tennis). 5) It is a game played indoors by two or four people. They stand at each end of a long table which has a low net across the middle and hit a small light ball to each other, using small bats (table tennis). 6) It is a game played on ice by two teams. Each team tries to score goals by using long sticks to hit a small flat object called the puck into a goal (ice hockey). 7) It is a game in which two teams hit a large ball with their hands, backwards and forwards over a high net. If you allow the ball to touch the ground within the court, your team loses a point (volleyball). 8) It is a game in which you roll a heavy ball down along narrow track towards a group of wooden objects and try to knock down as many of them as possible (bowling). 9) It is a game for two people, played on a special board. Each player has 16 pieces, including a king. The aim is to move your pieces so that your opponent’s king cannot escape being taken (chess). 10) It is a game in which you use long sticks called clubs to hit a small, hard ball into holes that are spread out over a large area of grassy land (golf). And now your turn one pupil think of a sport and the rest ask him questions and try to guess the sport. Try to put different types of questions. Thank you very much for your active participation. Listen to my statements and agree or disagree, explain your point of view: 1) Going in for sports is very popular today but it is expensive. 2) It is possible to keep feet without sport. 3) Professional sport is too cruel today. 4) Bad habits and sport cannot go together. 5) Sport is a hobby. Sport is an exciting creative sphere of hard work and competition. Competition: is it good or bad? Use Lexical Table 1 and discuss this problem with your group mates. Use your active vocabulary. Look at the table on the blackboard and say what connects sport with these things: Do you know that the British are great lovers of competitive sport? When they do not play or watch games they like to talk about them, and when they cannot do that they think about them. Can we say the same about our nation? The game that is especially connected with England is cricket. And in Belarus? The British pay much attention to the “sporting spirit”. What about our people? Thank you for the lesson, you were very active today. I think you liked the lesson too. And now I want to know what everybody of you have learnt about the role of sport in our life. I want everybody to answer the question “What is sport for?” Your home task for the next time will be to read the text “Traveling” in Chvedchenya – p.239; p.126 in your textbooks – new speech patterns, make up an oral situation with them. And now your marks for the lesson … | 2 3 2 32 (5) (8) 3 1 2 | t-cl t-cl p t-cl t-cl p p-p p-cl p-p t-cl p t-cl t-p | - уст. уст. уст. уст. уст. уст. - - |
