Темаурока: What points should we consider when choosing a career

Цель урока: совершенствование коммуникативной компетенции посредством изученной лексики, грамматики на уроках английского языка.

Задачи урока:

Образовательная: актуализировать и совершенствовать имеющиеся у учащихся знания по теме “Professions”,развивать навыки умения общаться на английском языке.

Развивающая: развивать интеллектуальные способности учащихся; формировать умение выделять главное, сравнивать и анализировать.

Воспитательная: содействовать профориентации учащихся, формировать потребности в практическом использовании языка.

Тип урока: комбинированный

Технология обучения: технология коммуникативного обучения; применение информационно-коммуникативных технологий.

Оборудование: мультимедийный проектор, компьютер

Ход урока:

Teacher: Sit down, please. I think you are ready. Let’s start our lesson. As you have guessed, today we’ll speak about professions. Our theme is "What points should we consider when choosing a career". Today we’re going to talk about the world of professions and to find out which of them will be top in the nearest future. Young people have many opportunities when they leave school. It is very important for a person to make the right choice.

2. Речевая разминка.

First of all, I’d like to remind you of the difference between the words: profession, job,work and career(CЛАЙД2).

Profession – a job that needs a special education and training.

Study the combination: by profession, choose smth as a profession. E.g: What is your mother by profession? Will you choose law as a profession?

Job – the regular paid work that you do for an employer.

Study the expressions: get/find, take/accept, Saturday/summer/holiday job. E.g: Did you work a holiday job this summer?

Work – the duties or activities that are part of a job. E.g: work for the company; work as a secretary. What company does your father work for?

Career- the type of work that you do for most of your life.

Now it’s time for a guessing-game “What profession is it?” I’ll describe a profession and you will give me the word.

Listen to the definition of the professions, try to guess and name them.

1. a person who can count well and keeps the money records of a business is an accountant

2. a person who designs clothes is a fashion designer

3. a person who gets cash or pays out money in a shop is a cashier

4. a person whose job is to design buildings is an architect

5. a person who changes words from one language to another is a translator.

6. a person that works with electric circuits is an electrician. 

7. a person who develops solutions to technical problems. They sometimes design, build, or maintain engines, machines, structures or public works is an engineer. 

8. a person who cuts your hair or give it a new style is a hairdresser. 

9. a person that repairs machines, especially car motors is a mechanic. 

And what about your task: your riddles about any profession you like? Listen to your friends and guess! What are they? Who begins, please?

• To my mind, it’s a modern but an eternal profession. It’s considered to be interesting because a person works with pupils or students. On the other hand, it’s difficult because he or she has to teach them a foreign language. I think this profession means to be a highly educated person and to know a lot about foreign countries, their culture, traditions and customs. /a teacher of a foreign language/

• As far as I know, a person works not only in an editorial office but also communicates with people of different professions, religions and political views. He or she has to work for hours with a lot of documents writing articles or essays. The job of this kind requires a university degree, good knowledge of a native or a foreign language, of different spheres of people’s life and society. That’s why the person has to be educated, intelligent, well-rounded and communicative. I believe this job is hard but a very well-paid one. /a journalist/

• I think a person who wants to be a specialist of this kind is eager to get a medical education. After that he works in a hospital and wears white clothes or a uniform. Day by day he takes care of his patients in order to treat them well. As for his personal features, he is very intelligent, professional, careful and considerate to people and especially to sick persons. To my mind, the main part of his duty is to go to the operating-room in order to help his patients to become healthy again. / a surgeon/

   Choosing a career should not only be a matter of future prestige and wealth. Work should bring real satisfaction; otherwise your whole life will become dull and monotonous. I wish you good luck.
