I’d like to welcome you all to this course.

Good morning, everybody.

How are we all doing this morning?

How’s everyone feeling today?

Do you like the weather today?

What`s the weather like today? Today is a fair (dull day) weather. It`s sunny today, but it`s not warm.

Do you think the weather will change? It will be cold and may be it will snow.

I totally agree with you. I`ve heard it over the radio before classes.

I believe you know such saying “Nature has no bad weather”. Let's say the tongue twister about the weather.

Severe, cold.

Attract, fascinate, was discovered.

The highest continent of our Planet.

a part of the world.

You may guess that this cinquain is about Antarctica.

Can you help me to make a story with the help of this cinquain?

(Antarctica is a part of the world. It is the highest continent of our Planet. It was discovered by  a Russian research expedition of Bellingshausen and Lazarev. This continent attracted and fascinated people in the past and continues attracting and fascinating us these days.)

Today we go on to work with this interesting theme.

1. To revise the words your first task is to match two columns to make the collocations or phrases.

2. The next, I`ll give you the definitions of the words in English, you should say this word.

1. Open your student`s books, go on to work with the text. Get ready for good reading.

Now close your books. Your task is to make short speeches using the information from the text. I`ll ask to form the small groups.

That`s good, we have got three groups. The topic for the first group is “The weather in the summer”, the second – “The weather in the winter”, the third – “The wild life”.

1. “What is it? Who is it?”

Let`s play. One of you stays with open eyes when the rest close your eyes and be very honest. I show a picture and the open eyed person must explain this picture, without saying clue words, only with the help of another words – synonyms.

1. Go on. I suggest to you watching one video and trying to remember as more facts about Antarctica as you can.

Your facts about Antarctica have to begin with the words: “I knew” or “I have learnt…”

1. And the last, I want to ask you to make the conclusion: to think and remember once more what we have spoken about this unusual continent today and compose (create) your cinquains.
