Lesson objectives

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

  • read and understand specific information in a short blog text;

  • talk about journeys to school using simple sentences;

  • spell common transport and school words correctly;

  • complete a simple chart about transport to school.

Lead-in (5 min)

Introduces the topic: Reading: A blog. Shows the map from the book and asks: How do people travel to school in this city?

Students look at the map and give ideas.

Learners understand the topic and participate in discussion.

Pre-reading (5 min)

Introduces new vocabulary: journey, ferry, tram, escalator, travel. Writes the words on the board and models pronunciation.






Students repeat the words and write them in their notebooks.

Learners pronounce and write new words correctly.

Reading (10 min)

Asks students to read the text “Getting around in Hong Kong”. Gives instructions to read and find specific information.




Students read the text individually or in turns.
