Nowadays the problem of the use of innovational technologies in Highschools is considered to be important. The main aim of teaching English is todevelop students’ communicative competence and skills of using language inpractice. While the main task of any teacher is to create proper atmosphere forlearners. That is to say, teachers should provide the learners with appropriatemethods, innovational techniques, projects and new information, so that studentscan show their creative activities. And Internet sources, taking into account students’skills and experience, help to identify their individual peculiarities.

For what purposes do we use computers in teaching English?

1. For acquiring lexis

2. For developing speaking skills

3. For developing dialogue and monologue

4. For teaching project works

5. For teaching grammar [1].

Different didactic tasks can be accomplished by teachers with the help ofthe Internet: developing of reading, writing skills, enriching students’ vocabulary,increasing students’ interest in English.Students can take part in different academic competitions through the Internet.

At the same time, the learners

have an opportunity to play academicgames and create various tests and tasks [2].

The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that

use the standard Internet protocol suite to serve billions of users worldwide. It is

a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic,business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies [3].

So, when we speak about the Internet, we do not mean the physical network

itself, but the worldwide network and the Information that it contains.Nowadays the Internet is

considered to be the new trend in teaching andlearning. The Internet helps students to de

velop their intercultural skills, tocommunicate with the people from every corner of the world, and during thisinteraction, students can face real life situations.To be in the informational community of the world, a student should beclosely connected to computers, namely the Internet. As an informational system, the Internet can provide us with different data and sources. That is why we want to demonstrate some websites that are useful for any learner [1].

The internet is the way of getting information about the latest news of the

world. It helps teachers to provide learners with news, and make them analyze.

For an instance, nowadays, many newspapers have their websites. And they are

divided into several thematic sections such as news (culture and art, business,economics and so on), sport, advertisement, weather forecast, etc.

Students are aware of what is going on in the world through Web newspapers,radios and channels. They can not only watch, listen to or read the news,but they can also contact with the authors online, and express their opinions

about the news.Students can work on different articles in groups of three or two. Thismethod will help to develop students’ interest and activity in English. They canalso make their own projects or write essays on the articles. After every accomplishedtask, teachers should organize discussions, debates or conferences.

An example of web newspaper is given below [4]:There is another way of working on tasks with the help of the Internet. Itis email. International exchange of messages can be realized by different numbersof participants. Email is done quicker than writing letters in papers. It canbe used for different purposes, for example, for joint projects, for solving definiteproblems.

Email is the easiest way of exchanging messages. Using this type ofcommunication, some teachers made the following conclusion:

- Students can work in groups of three or two without any teacher’smonitoring. If they discuss the theme they are interested in, their work will bemore effective;

- The process of writing will also change, i.e. they will try not tomake mistakes and they will consult each other;

- Through Email students can independently express their opinion. D.Teeler and P.Gray propose the following steps of tasks’ preparation:

1. To define tasks that are not interesting for students;

2. To define the drawbacks of the tasks and to try to improve themthrough the Internet sources;

3. When the topic of the lesson is decided, the following step is towork with websites. We cannot take any website, they should be chosen accordingto some criteria. The choice of the websites is dependent on the themes ofthe lessons.

4. After the website is chosen, the lessons are planned. The taskshould give students the following opportunities: to learn how to evaluate, tocompare, to model, to study, to make hypothesis, to organize, to interview, tolisten, to watch, to observe, to retell, to investigate, to play, to report, etc. In thiscase, such tasks develop students’ informative competence [5].

So, the preparation of Internet based tasks consists of three steps:

1. Preparation – to develop speaking skills, to be able to use backgroundknowledge, to read words,

to introduce the theme.

2. Work with the sources in the Internet – to work with the Internetsearching programs, read and write, to search for special information and towrite them down in their papers, to find answers for questions, and so on. Studentsshould know what they have to do and how much time they are given.

3. Work without the Internet - to exchange with the taken information,and to discuss what they found out or saw during working with the internet.

Moreover students have an opportunity to work on different projects. They can choose a topic and work on it. In such case, the following website can

be useful for them [6].

Project Icon – here students can play the role of the representatives oftheir own country

and conduct debates or discuss on behalf of their countries.They express their opinions through email. And all the sent letters can be seenfor all the participants. The process is very effective, as they not only exchangeinformation on a definite topic or express their own viewpoints, but they contactwith the students of other countries, being in touch with different nationalitiesand cultures as well. And that will develop their intercultural competence [7].

Icons projectIn a nutshell, the tasks based on the

Internet sources are successful way ofteaching foreign languages. They will help to solve a number of problems, asthey have educative, instructional, and developmental potentials. In such a way,working with the Internet sources supports the personal growth in whole.
