The theme of the lesson: “The national currency of the Republic of Kazakhstan”


Group: 2 course “FIANACE”

Subject: Professional English


The objectives:

  1. Educational – to present new words connected to the theme; to introduce the history of the national currency; to provide learning experiences that will encourage the student to discover and be challenged in learning and become acquainted with money;

  2. Practical – to practice using of new lexis in written and oral speech;

  3. Developing – to develop students’ communicative and perceptive skills;

  4. Cultural – to enlarge students’ knowledge about the currency; to increase the interest in learning target language; to enrich their sense of responsibility by working in group;


Aids: Interactive board, active pen, text, exercise task, points


Type of the lesson: combined, competition


Method: technology of critical thinking, information and communication technology


Procedure:

  1. Organization moment:

  1. Greeting: (3 min)

  • Good morning, guys! How are you today?

  • Who is on duty today? Who is absent today?

  • What season is it now? What month is it now? What date is it today? What day of week is it today? What’s the weather like today?

  • Today we have unusual lesson. We have two teams and we’ll compete with each other. The theme of the lesson is “The national currency of the Republic of Kazakhstan”. Today we’ll talk about “Tenge” and about money. The objectives of our lesson are to present the theme, to practice the theme in written and oral speech, to increase your ability of working in a group. I divided you into 2 teams.

  1. Warm-up: ( 6 min)

Put these words into the gap. Which group will answer more that get 2 points, second 1 point.

  1. Checking the home-task: (12 min)

And your home task was to prepare the presentation on currency of different countries. Preparing the presentation of two countries:

1-group: Currency of the USA. Captain - Almas

2-group: Euro. Captain – Auez


At first tell us about your team, the name of the team, motto and a little about your participants. Then show us your presentation. The best presentation will get 2 points, the rest 1 point

The National Currency of Kazakhstan

Tenge is the currency of Kazakhstan. It was introduced on the 15th of November 1993. International symbol – KZT. 1 tenge is equal to 100 tyin. Turkic medieval silver coins “dengue" or “tanga", from which, in turn, derived the name of the Russian coins “denga” and the word “dengi”. The meaning of this word is to be equal, balance. Kazakhstan was one of the last countries of CIS to introduce a national currency.

On November 12th, 1993, a decree of the President of Kazakhstan, "About introducing national currency of Republic of Kazakhstan", was issued. On November 15th, 1993, the tenge was brought into circulation. As such, November 15th is celebrated as the "Day of national currency of Republic of Kazakhstan".

The first consignment of tenge was printed abroad, in the U.K.. The first coins were minted in Germany. The designers that create the tenge are Mendybay Alin, Timur Suleymenov, Asimsaly Duzelkhanov and Khayrulla Gabzhalilov.

Starting from 2006 a new type banknotes with improved defense and altered design are being produced. Made in one style, notes contains the vertical image on the front side, and horizontal on the backside. On the banknote, Baiterek a symbol of modern Kazakhstan is depicted. At present, on the territory of Kazakhstan banknote: 200, 500, 2000, 5000, 10 000, as well as coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 tiyns participate in the cash turnover. Kazakhstan has the most advanced banking system in Central Asia.
