Degrees of Comparison of Adjectives
Прилагательные английского языка имеют 3 формы степеней сравнения:
the Positive Degree (положительная степень сравнения).
Форма положительной степени прилагательного совпадает с начальной (простой) формой прилагательного.
E.g. cold, easy, famous.
the Comparative Degree (сравнительная) показывает большую или меньшую степень признака одного из сравниваемых предметов или лиц.
Если форма прилагательного в положительной степени состоит из 1-го слога, то форма сравнительной степени образуется путем прибавления суффикса - er.
E.g. colder, easier
Прилагательные, состоящие в положительной степени из 3-х или более слогов, в сравнительной степени образуются при помощи слова more (less).
E.g. more famous, less famous.
the Superlative Degree (превосходная)
Превосходная степень сравнения показывает самую большую или самую меньшую степень признака предмета среди нескольких сравниваемых предметов или лиц.
Если форма прилагательного в положительной степени состоит из 1-го слога или 2-х, то форма превосходной степени образуется при помощи прибавления определенного артикля the и суффикса - est.
E.g. the coldest, the easiest
Прилагательные, состоящие в положительной степени из 3-х или более слогов, в превосходной степени образуются при помощи слов the most (the least).
E.g. the most famous, the least famous
Особые случаи образования степеней сравнения прилагательных.

many Eg. It’s a good day today. The weather is getting better. It’s the best day in my life.
Некоторые прилагательные имеют двойные формы степеней сравнения:
по возрасту:
older (старше) – oldest (старейший, самый старший)
old
в семье или по чину, по положению:
elder (старший) – eldest (самый старший)
в значении расстояния:
farther (более дальний) – the farthest (самый дальний)
far
(дальний, в переносном значении:
далекий) further (дальнейший) – the furthest (самый дальний)
