Aims: to introduce students with the main cities of Canada; 
to create a language atmosphere in the class where students will be able to communicate in English in pairs, in groups; 
to form the ability to work in a team, helping each other; ability to analyze and critically evaluate information; 
to develop communicative skills and critical thinking; 

Pupils will be able: 
1) to show their knowledge on the theme “Canada”; 
2) to connect early learnt material with the new one; 
3) to get some information about Canada; 
4) to answer the questions about Canada; 
5) to compare and find some differences and similarities between two main cities in Canada using Venn’s diagram; 
6) to complete the semantic map; 
7) to work individually, in pairs, in groups; 
8) to communicate in English; 
9) to evaluate their work and their partners’ work;

Good morning! Today our lesson will be devoted to the theme “Canada” and we will learn some more information about the main cities in Canada. 
Teacher invites pupils to stand in a circle and make a compliment to each other. They are divided into groups according to their birthday dates.

Warm-up T.: In the previous lesson we have studied the geographical position of Canada. 
For broadening your mind let’s learn some additional information about Canada. Look at the computer screen.

Teacher asks students to answer the questions. 
T.: Work in groups and answer the following questions. 
Method “Interview”. Questionnaire about Canada. 
What do you know about Canada? 

T.: Exchange your sheet of paper with questions and compare the answers of another group. 
Check your answers according to the etalon and evaluate the work of the other group. 
Students learn some more information about geographical position, climate, capital, population, main cities, mineral resources from the slides about Canada. 

Students work in groups and answer the questionnaire about Canada. Then they exchange a sheet of paper with questions and compare the answers.

Summers are warm and humid. The average July maximum temperature is 26.5 C. Snow and ice are dominant during the winter season. The average January minimum temperature is 15.3 C.
