The procedure of the lesson
1. Organization moment.
T.: Good afternoon, children!
P.: Good afternoon!
T: Now let’s greet each other. (They should stand face to face and greet each other doing some actions) (SLIDE 1)

T.: Sit down, please. Let’s begin our lesson.
Who’s on duty today? What date is it today?
Р.: It is the 25 th of January.
T.: What day is it today?
Р.: It is Monday
2. Warm up
I’ll have to divide you into two groups. You should choose one piece (a chess figure) and name the colour and find your group (white or black). If you know the name of the pieces, you may call it into Russian or English. (SLIDE 2)
Now look at the board and let’s practice these words:
(?) king [k??] — король
(?) queen [kwi?n] — королева; ферзь
(?) bishop ['bi?op] — слон (шахм.); епископ
(?) knight [na?t] — конь (шахм.); рыцарь
(?)castle ['k??sl] / rook [ruk] — ладья (шахм.); замок (castle)
(?)pawn — пешка (шахм.);
T.: Can you play chess? Is it an interesting game? Why yes/no? (pupils will give their opinions about the game)
P.: (because it helps to develop strategic thinking in life).
(Chess - a great training for intelligence.)
3. Introducing with the theme.
Look at these pictures and what can you see on the them? (There are 2 pictures of a girl and a boy who playing chess). (SLIDE 3)
The pupils will answer the questions:
- Who can you see?
- What are they doing ?
- Who is the girl?
- What’s her name?
- What do you think what we are going to study at our lesson? (pupils give their opinions such as about chess, players and famous chess players)
As you see today we are going to study about “Two super chess players”.

4. Working in groups.
Now open your books on page 15, exercise 18.
The white group reads about Ivan Mirsky
The black group reads about Zhansaya Abdumalik
1) Let’s review the forms of the verb “to be” in Past Simple using the grammar table. (SLIDE 4). The past forms of “to be” are was and were. We use was with (singular pronouns) I, He, She, It. We use were with (plural pronouns) We, You, They.
2) Then look through the texts and read out the sentences “to be ” in Past Simple
3) You should read the text with your group to discuss the questions in your groups. (ex 19 p 16)
5. Giving information.
1. The groups will ask questions to each other(SLIDE 5).
What is your person’s name?
How old is he/she?
Where was he/she born?
Where does he/she live with?
Does he/she go to school?
Who does he/she live with?
What could he/ she do when he was very young?
Where was he / she?
2. Well, we have known each other’s text.
Using a diagram to write similarities and differences about the characters and present it to us. (SLIDE 7)

- Now give the mark “excellent, good or bad” to the partner’s work.
6. Relaxing.
Do the actions and sing a song “Clap your hands?” (SLIDE 8)
7. Playing a role game. Press conference.
Today we have invited our heroes to the conference. And now let’s invite them to the center. The pupils will ask questions as the journalist from different countries:
- Hello, …… My question is to Ivan (Zhansaya)/ Can I ask you a question?
- How old are you?
- Where are you from?
- Do you go to school?
- What could you do when you were young?
Our conference is over now. Let’s say goodbye and thank our heroes!
7. Reflection.
