First Steps in IT English: words, notions, measurements

Parts and Measurements

1) To acquaint students’ with the first steps in IT English;

2) To develop students’ cognitive interest.

3) To foster a love of their future profession.

The procedure of the lesson:

T: Good morning, dear students! Sit down! Who is on duty today? What date is it today? Who is absent today?

Today we’re beginning the 1^st part: First Steps in IT English: words, notions, measurements. The theme is “Parts and measurements”.

First of all let’s acquaint with the new words:

Vocabulary:

to compute - вычислять PC – Personal computer

desktop – рабочий стол

part – часть device - устройство

hardware – аппаратные средства, элементы электронных устройств

drive – привод, дисковод; управлять

hard drive – жесткий диск floppy disk drive – гибкий жесткий диск

CD-ROM drive – диск CD-ROM

CD-rewriter – CD редиректор CD – compact disk

DVD – Digital Versatile Disk – цифровой универсальный диск

Tower - башня mouse - мышь

key – ключ, клавиша, код, кнопка, подстрочный перевод; клавишный, командный keyboard - клавиатура

peripherals – периферийные устройства

to store - хранить

storage – место хранения, хранилище, склад, запоминающее устройство, память, накопление

storage device - накопитель

memory – память, запись, накопитель информации, машинная память, запоминающее устройство

RAM – Random Access Memory – ОЗУ Оперативное Запоминающее Устройство

ROM – Read Only Memory – ПЗУ Постоянное Запоминающее устройство

Unit – единица (измерения)

to measure – измерять measurement – измерение, система мер

bit – binary digit – немного, кусочек – двоичный символ

byte – байт kilobyte, Megabyte, Gigabyte

hertz – гертц megahertz, gigahertz

inch – дюйм (-овый)

speed – скорость size – размер

rate – ставка, скорость, тариф, коэффициент, степень, доля; тарифицировать, вычислять, определять, устанавливать

to process – обрабатывать to control - контролировать

CPU – central processing unit – ЦПУ – (центральный) процессор
