Kazakhstan is an independent Republic. It is situated in the Central Asia. The area of Kazakhstan is 2,724,900 sq km. It is the 9th largest country in the world. Kazakhstan borders with China, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kirgizia. In the west and southwest, the territory of Kazakhstan is washed by the Caspian Sea.
Its population is about 16 million. Astana is the capital of the Republic. Astana is situated in the central part of the country. Kazakhstan has 14 regions, 84 cities.
Kazakh is the official language of the country, Russian and other languages are spoken here too.
Kazakhstan has an extreme continental climate. It is cold in winter and hot in summer The land of Kazakhstan is rich in soils. Mountains rise from the steppes in the south and southeast of Kazakhstan. The highest point of the mountain system is Peak Khan-Tengri. There are many rivers in Kazakhstan. The Ural River, flows to the Caspian Sea. The main lakes are Balkhash Lake, Zaisan Lake, Alakol Lake, and Tengiz Lake.
The largest rivers of Kazakhstan are the Irtysh, Ishim, Ural, Syrdarya, Ili, Chu, Tobol, and Nura.
Kazakhstan has enormous valuable natural resources. In short, 99 of the 110 elements on the Mendeleev periodic table are found in the depths of Kazakhstan. The country is rich in mineral resources such as copper, oil, natural gas, gold, iron, lead, nickel, silver, tin, uranium and zinc. Kazakhstan has well - developed heavy industry in many cities and towns.
Agriculture takes a very important sector in the national economy. The people of the country grow wheat, millet, corn and cotton.
