2. Brainstorming:
Students naming the words (All computer vocabulary. They know). Then put the words on the blackboard. Students must be ready to explain or translate them If the classmates do not know the words. Then ask students to copy the list of words into the copybooks
After that they are listening and reading the dialogue in Activity 1, students tick the words on the list that are in the text.
3. Checking up home task:
Tenses game – briefly review the tenses and structures the class studied in Module 1 and 2: the present simple, the present continuous, going to, the past simple, the past continuous, used to and the present perfect. Divide the class into groups. Write simple sentences prompts on the board, e.g. I/drink/milk. Groups write a sentence (affirmative, negative or a question), using the prompts and the words/phrases from the card. They can add extra words if they want or need to. With some words/phrases different tenses can be used as long as the sentence is logical and grammatically correct. Set a time limit.
Groups read out their sentences. If their sentence is correct, they get one point. If is incorrect, elicit from the class what is wrong with it and how it should be corrected.
5. Presenting the new theme :
Focus students’ attention on the picture. Elicit that the characters are Gavin, his cousin Anna and their friends, Jess and Harry. Teacher explains that Gavin is showing the others his new computer program. Students listen the CD. Elicit that Gavin does not know how to use his new computer program.
Divide students into pairs and ask them to discuss and design on paper their own ‘Cool’ blog. Display the projects around the classroom. Get students to vote for their favorite blog project.
Comprehension.
Students match the phrases in A to phrases in B to make sentences about Gavin’s situation. In pairs, students compare their answers. Check the answers with the whole class.
On the board: Teacher write the first sentence on the board and elicit that it is the first conditional, which students studied in HOT SPOT 3. Refer students to the Grammar spot on the next page to review the structure and introduce unless. Explain that unless means if not, i.e. unless you calm down=if you don’t calm down.
Refer students to the Grammar summary on page 100 for more information on the 1st conditional/
Work in groups, students write as many endings to the phrases If you read the manual…. and if you don’t read the manual… as possible. They can use the example from Activity 1 and their own ideas. Set a limit of three minutes. The group with the greatest number of correct endings wins the game.
8.Home task: Activity book page 20, Activities 1-2. Students write own sentences with the words in bold from Activity 1.
Conclusion of the lesson: teacher and students sums up the lesson and evaluate active groups.
Reflection: Now I want to know how you like our lesson. Let’ do a poem –cinquain
