The procedure of the lesson

I. Organization moment.

Good morning, children! How are you today? What is the weather like today? What is date today? Who is on duty today? Is anybody absent?

II. Checking up the homework.

Exercise 10 p 69

III. Warming up.

Learn a new language and get a new soul

IV. Introduction of the new theme.

Work in groups

Think back to when you were at primary school. What can you remember about your classmates, teachers and classrooms? What differences would you notice if you went into a typical primary school classroom now?

Exercise 2: Read these advertisements for independent schools.

Exercise 3: Look carefully at the advertisements. Make a list of the features which both schools advertise.

Example: Qualified staff. Good accommodation.

Speaking

If you wanted to go to a private school which school would you choose? Why?

Exercise 5: Work in small groups.

Choose one of the private schools in your place and write an advertisement about it giving full information. Compare with others.

Reading

You are going to read two texts. Two people are going to speak about the schools they went.

  • Predict what topics you think will be mentioned.

  • Think of things you would like to know and write questions.

Example: What kind of after-school activities do both schools have?

Exercise 7: Read the texts again. Are your questions answered? Write in your notebook.

V. Consolidation.

Exercise 9: There are some phrasal verbs in both texts. Find and underline them.

Phrasal verbs is a verb made up of several words, e.g. come round, go into something, get on with somebody.

  • Which of the two schools would you prefer to go to? Why?

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of traditional schools?

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of alternative schools?

Imagine you’ve won a competition to continue your education in England. You need to write about yourself. What would you write?
