- Good afternoon, boys and girls! I am glad to see you! Sit down, please! The theme of our lesson is “British actors”. Today we will learn new words, read and write. Today (6 of 10, 7of 11, 8 of 12)63% must get “4” or “5”. Now I want to give the word for our lieder - Sergey.

- Almost each of you has favorite actor or actress. There are many famous actors in Great Britain and in the whole world. But today we will speak about one of the beloved comedians of the world – Charlie Chaplin.

Sir Charlie Chaplin is one of the beloved comedians of the world. Years after his death, the comic films of movie actor and director Charlie Chaplin continue to be popular. He is one of the greatest comic actors who achieved greater, widespread fame in his own lifetime.

Charlie Chaplin was a famous English actor. He was born in England on 16^th of April 1889. His parents were artists of Music Hall. His first step to the stage was at the age of 5. He attended school very seldom. He had to work because his family was very poor. He worked as a newspaperman and the assistant of a doctor. At the age of 16 he played violin a lot 4-16 hours a day. At the age of 19 he began working at the theatre. Charlie worked in silent comedy films and became famous all over the world because of his talent. His nickname was “The Little Tramp”. He had a black moustache, small black hat and a stick. He was funny, small, talented and clever. He liked making people laugh most of all. Chaplin won Oscar twice. His most famous films are “Big City Lights” and “The Great Dictator”.

This is a story that Charlie Chaplin liked to tell about himself. It happened after the great actor had become world famous. A theatre announced that a competition would be held to see who could act like Charlie Chaplin. Those taking part had to dress like Chaplin, walk like Chaplin and act one of the roles in a Chaplin’s film. When Charlie Chaplin heard about the competition, he decided, as a joke, to take part in the competition himself. Naturally, he kept his plan in secret from everybody.

When the results of the competition were announced, Chaplin said, “I didn’t know whether to feel angry or only surprised. I didn’t win the first prize. But after thinking about it, I decided that it would be best to laugh”.
