Lesson objectives

All learners will be able to:

  • Listen to the passage and match the speaker to the genre of film;
  • Listen to the passage and complete the gaps with the correct speaker;
  • Read the text “Motion pictures” and answer the questions on it;
  • Write a passage on their favourite film.

Most learners will be able to:

  • Do the listening exercises with minor mistakes;
  • Read the text “Motion pictures” and answer  at least 70% of all the questions correctly;
  • Write a passage on their favourite film answering at least four questions given in the task 2 and using at least two basic linking words.

Some learners will be able to:

  • Read the text “Motion pictures” and answer  at least 80% of all the questions correctly;
  • Write a passage on their favourite film answering all the questions given in the task 2;
  • Write a passage on their favourite film with no more than two mistakes in grammar and spelling.

  • Listening Task 1

(I) Teacher suggests listening activity to the learners. Learners listen to the passage “My favourite film”. They get a sheet with the tasks. Teacher gives them some time to look through the tasks and search the words that they do not know. Before listening teacher discusses the assessment criteria together with the learners:

  • Recognise particular information and details while listening
  • 11 questions out of 14 should be done correctly (85 %)

Then they listen for the first time and match the speaker to the genre of film. They listen twice.

(IW) Teacher suggests learners to write summative assessment for the unit “Entertainment and Media” and hands out sheets with the exercises on reading and writing.

Assessment criteria:

  • Identify details in the reading paragraph;
  • Present personal feelings and opinions in a paragraph;
  • Operate present simple tense accurately.

Task 1. Reading

Learners read the text “Motion pictures” and answer four questions:

1. Why do people go to cinemas?

2. How can a good director influence on film success?

3. Why does the success of the movie depend on actors?

4. How does company usually promote the film?

For this task, learners get maximum 7 points.

Task 2. Writing

Learners write 50 – 60 words passage about their favourite film explaining why they like it. In their passage they should express their feelings and opinion and present information at least to 4 questions out of 6:

1. What is the title of the film?

2. What genre is it?

3. What is it about?

4. Where and when is the film set?

5. Who are stars in the film?

6. Why do you recommend this film?

For the writing task earner g maximum 4 oints
