Students work with groups of mixed abilities. It helps all members of the groups compare the results. Also it will be possible to check the result and analyze mistakes for weak students

Task 3 Audio Listen, listen “The Fernandez family's new home town?”

Note: Teacher explains the instructions clearly and makes support for weak students by asking additional questions for better understanding the task. After that the teacher switches on the trek for listening.

Instruction

2.Distinguish the new vocabulary in the audio.

Differentiation:by scaffolding

Teacher provides weak students with transcript of the audio. They may use it while listening. As for strong students there is no need to use it. Only in case of misunderstanding.

Task 5“Our town”

Teacher provides tasks for formative assessment for each student.

Instruction

  • Look at Handout 3.

  • Read the task

  • Look at the table.

  • On the left you’ll find a column for questions.

  • On the right you’ll find three columns for students’ answers.

  • Write three GOOD questions about town in pairs.

  • Each student must write the questions on his / her own paper.

  • When you have finished, interview other students.

  • Write down their answers.

  • Follow the timing. You have 3 minutes to write questions and 5 minutes to interview other students.

Note: Students write questions in pairs. It encourages them to teach each other how to ask and answer special questions.



Differentiation: by scaffolding.

Teacher provides learners with useful vocabulary and question phrases which are located on the board.


Assessment: Teacher assesses learner knowledge according to the criteria.

Differentiation: by difficulty of task

The first task extends student’s vocabulary. It will be helpful for less able learner to do the second task. While the second task challenges more able learners to write a short newspaper article and to press it in school newspaper.

Appendix2 My town My Town – Newquay

by Alex Howarth, 14

I live in Newquay. It’s a small town on the Atlantic coast in the south of England. It has got great beaches and is the best place to surf in the UK. There are lots of surf schools where you can learn how to surf. I go surfing with my friends every weekend. My favourite place is Fistral Beach.

I love Newquay because there are lots of other things to do as well as surfing. If you like water sports, you can go kayaking, water-skiing or coasteering. Coasteering is different because it is rock climbing, jumping into the sea and swimming in the same activity, but you should always go with a special instructor.

If you like animals you can also visit the Blue Reef Aquarium and see lots of different fish and even sharks. You can also go horse riding on the beach or visit Newquay Zoo. There are lots of other attractions too like mini golf and bowling. Come and see for yourself!
