I. Rewrite the following sentences in the past tense.

1) I am afraid they won’t come tomorrow.

2) He thinks farmers will collect the harvest in two days.

3) Mary hopes that Tom will visit her tonight.

4) Parents expect that the children will come back soon.

5) Pupils promise that they will do the task today.

6) I believe Mark will come and help them.

7) They hope we will like the play.

8) I am sure they will solve this problem.

9) I hope we’ll enjoy the show.

10) They expect their team will win the match tomorrow.


II. Open the brackets using the verbs either in the Future Simple or in the Future-in-the-Past Simple.

1) The teacher asked when Linda (to be) ready.

2) He knows that she (not to be) late.

3) Helen wanted to know where I (to spend) my weekends.

4) I believe they (to understand) everything.

5) They promise that they (to give) a helping hand.

6) She said that the doctor (to come) soon.

7) Are you sure that they (to go) to the party?

8) The headmaster decided that the lessons (to begin) at 8 o’clock.

9) We didn’t know when he (to leave) for London.

10) I think mum (to cook) a cake in the evening.


III. Correct the mistakes.

1) I knew you will go with him to the concert.

2) They thought Lilly would be able to work tomorrow.

3) Everyone believe that Inna would win the race.

4) She had a feeling that something wrong would happened.

5) Children would promise that they would behave themselves.
