Hello, dear guests. Welcome to Volgograd. Nice to meet you. My name is Vitaly Shumilin and this is my assistant Andrey Drozhilin, and today we're going to be your guides. We'll have a 30 minute long excursion starting from here.
Now we're standing on the 0 kilometer. All the roads in Volgograd region start here. The 0 kilometer is located on The Square of Fallen Heroes, which is one of the most well-known places in Volgograd.

From here we can see The Volgograd State New Experimental Theatre, which was founded in 1989. The building was erected in 1915 and named The House of Science and Art. Then in 1933 it was renamed into The Gorky Drama Theatre. But this gorgeous building didn`t look exactly the same as we can see it now. The old one was hardly damaged during World War II and reconstructed in 1952. In 1989 The Drama Theatre was disbanded and the building was given to The New Experimental Theatre, which is still working nowadays and often gets sold-outs. You can visit it later and watch some great plays such as "The Curious Savage", "Faith, Hope And Love", "Romeo and Juliet" and many others.

On the other side we can see the magnificent Russian Post Office. We'll go by it on the way back.

And here, behind your backs, we can see the mass grave of the defenders of red Tsaritsyn and the soldiers of the 62^nd and 64^th armies, fallen defending the city, and the monument for them. We'll talk more about it on our way back. And now I think we're ready to go to the train station. 

This is the train station Volgograd-1. It began to exist as Tsaritsyn-1 in 1871 after the setting up straight train contact with Moscow. Then in 1925 it was renamed into Stalingrad-1 after the city renaming. On August 23 during the bombing the station was badly ruined. This impressive building we see was built in 1954. Unfortunately, during the terrorists' attack, it was greatly damaged. Then in 2014 it was reconstructed and turned into one of the most beautiful buildings of Volgograd.

Now let's go a bit further. This is the memorial for those who died during the terrorists' attack on December 29, 2013. A woman went in the building with a bomb on her body, a policeman stopped her from going further and she activated the bomb in the entrance, causing less damage than it could have been.

Now I ask you to turn around and come a little bit closer to the fountain. It's called Barmaley or children's roundelay. It was built in 1930 showing a scene from a fairytale, where 6 kids dance around the crocodile, who ate a villain Barmaley, but the fountain was ruined during World War II. And in 2013 it was rebuilt. So now we're going on and moving back to where we started.

This is the office of Russian Post. It is totally different from regular buildings. Don`t you find it much more beautiful than ordinary boring blocks of flats? As you can see, in our city old buildings blend with modern ones. And on this side of this magnificent building we can see the text-table, which is to honor signalmen of World War II.

This is The Central Department Store building, where in January 1943 German general Paulus was captured. The store was built in 1938 and was hardly damaged during the war. Now there is a museum called Memory.

And now we're back here and going to talk about this monument. The heroic protectors of red Tsaritsyn were buried here in 1919. 

Now let's move to the eternal flame. The writing says that the soldiers and officers of the 62nd and 64th armies were buried here. And "Glory to the heroes fallen fighting for the freedom of our homeland". 

And now, please, look at this tree. This is a very old poplar, which "stood through the great battle". You can see it`s covered with many wounds it had during the war. Now I think we`re ready to continue and head straight to the next monument.

We came to the monument for honored soldiers of World War II. You can see their names written here. Surely they're not all the names of the brave soldiers who fell protecting our future.

Dear guests, we're at the fountain named "Art". It was built in August of 1957 and was named "Friendship". There are 3 women folk dancing on the pedestal. Let's move forward a little so we can see the embankment.

Here it is. It's called "The Embankment of the 62nd army". And I would say it`s the most famous place in Volgograd. Lots of concerts, festivals and celebrations take place here. But the embankment wasn`t always that beautiful and bewitching. It was hardly damaged during World War II and rebuilt in 1952.

And if we turn right, we'll see the highest building in Volgograd. Its name is Volga Sails. It consists of two buildings connected to each other. The highest building is 116m tall and has 32 floors, another building has 27 floors.
