Данная презентация может использоваться на уроках английского языка в 8 классе (УМК "Enjoy English" авторы: Биболетова , Добрынина, Денисенко). Она позволит обобщить знания, умения и навыки по данной теме и обеспечить активизацию лексики в речевых ситуациях.

is a place far above the Earth where there is no air.

The Universe

The Universe is all space and everything that exists in it.

There are a lot of galaxies in the Universe.

is a huge group of stars and planets.

There are thousands of millions galaxies.

The most famous galaxies are:

The Andromeda galaxy

The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds

The Milky Way

What galaxy do we live in?

We live in the Milky Way

We live in…

or just

the Galaxy

The Milky Way consists of many systems.

One of them is the Solar System ,

where we live.

The Solar System

is the Sun together with the planets

going round it.

What planets of the Solar System do you know?

M e r c u r y - the closest planet to the Sun; - the surface temperature of its can fall up to -360 F during the night; - the year on it lasts 88 days

V e n u s - the second planet from the Sun; - the entire planet is covered by thick clouds; -this planet has not satellites

E a r t h

is the planet where we live

- the third planet from the Sun;

- the surface, covered with large areas of water;

- period of axial rotation: 23 hours 56 minutes 4 seconds

M a r s - this planet is about twice smaller than the Earth; - appears reddish in our sky, even to the naked eye; - has two small moons: Phobos and Deimos; -

J u p i t e r

- is the biggest planet of the Solar System.

- its composition is more like a star than a planet;

- has 39 moons

S a t u r n - this planet has rings; - larger than the Earth; - one of the giant planets; - its rings consisting of small frozen particles

U r a n u s - has a system of nine rings; - this planet is bluish-green in color; - its atmosphere consisting almost entirely of hydrogen and helium; - period of revolution around sun: 84 years; - 42 years of sunlight and 42 years of darkness

N e p t u n e - the year on it lasts about 165 years; - it is the fourth-largest planet; - the windiest planet in our solar system; - it is also very cold on this planet, with temperatures as low as 235 C.

P l u t o - this planet is the farthest from the Sun; - one travel around the sun lasts 248 Earth-years; - it has one known satellite

Where will people go after they’ve explored their own Solar system?

They will travel to other galaxies

in huge “starships”.

is a rocket that can travel in space.

Spaceships will travel through space

with people on board.

Then, when a suitable planet is found,

some of these people will stay there

and begin new life.
