EDUCATION IN GREAT BRITAIN
In Great Britain children start going to school when they are five and continue studying until they are 16 or older. Compulsory education begins at the age of five when children go to primary school. Primary education lasts for six years. First they attend the infant school from five to seven. In infant schools children don't have real classes. They get acquainted with the class-room, desks, play and learn through playing. They learn numbers and how to add them. When the children are seven they go to junior school which they attend until eleven. Boys and girls study at junior school for four years. There they have classes, read and write, do mathematics. Then they go to secondary school. At secondary school pupils study English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Art, Music, Foreign languages and Physical training. There are some types of secondary school in Great Britain. They are grammar school, modern school and comprehensive schools. There are some private schools in England. Boys and girls do not study together at these schools. The teachers of these schools pay personal attention to each pupil. The lessons last 40-45 minutes. British students have Christmas holidays, Easter holidays and Summer holidays.
English pupils have school uniform. It is an old tradition in the country. A boy's uniform consist of a special suit, a school cap , a tie end a blazer. A girl's uniform consist of a hat, a coat, a skirt and a blouse . As usual uniform is dark. One of the most important elements of the uniform is a school tie. As you have just read British education has many different faces but one purpose. Its purpose is to develop pupils' abilities and prepare them for life in the modern world.
EDUCATION IN KAZAKHSTAN
- We start school at the age of five. At first children go to preparatory class where they play, draw and learn first steps of schooling. It takes 1 year. Then at the age of 6 pupils enter primary school where they have real classes. After four years of primary school we go to secondary school. Primary and secondary schools together comprise eleven years of classes which are compulsory in our republic. Our school year begins on the first of September and ends in May. It lasts 9 months. We have four holidays a year: winter, spring, summer and autumn. On the Is1of September we get acquainted with our teachers and have our first lessons. Every lesson lasts 45 minutes. Every day we have 5 or 6 lessons. The primary school curriculum includes such subjects as Kazakh, Math, Russian, Drawing, PT and Music. We have also Nature classes. We begin learning English in kindergarten. Recently Kazakhstan has also developed several types of schools with greater specialization such as gymnasium, technical, lyceums and private schools. Besides secondary schools there are other types of schools in Ka¬zakhstan. There are specialized secondary schools with intensive study of a certain subject, for example Foreign Languages, Literature, Physics and others. 4. There are also specialized art, music, ballet and sport schools for gifted children and special schools for handicapped children.Education is free, except those which work on a commercial basic. Today the educational system in Kazakhstan is presented by two languages: Kazakh and Russian. Secondary education is the most developed of the state's educational system. Pupils receive their secondary education in schools of three levels. Primary 1-4 grades, middle 5-9 grades and junior 10-11 grades. After finishing the 9 th grade children continue education in high schools, technical-professional institutes, or in special schools. The main purpose of Kazakhstani schools is preparation of students for living in the modern world. Nowadays pupils in Kazakhstan wear a uniform, too. It can be a white blouse , a dark skirt or a dress for girls and a white shirt and dark trousers for boys.
