I would like to start my presentation with the words of the well-known German composer I.S. Bach [bak]: “The aim and the final reason of all music should be none else but the glory of God and the recreation of mind”. This is what a famous English musician and song-writer Sting believes in and what he has devoted his life for.
Let me start with a brief story of his arrival to what Sting is now. He was born in a working-class family. From an early age he knew that he wanted to be a musician. His mother having a musical education managed to develop his son’s talent for music by teaching him to play the piano. At the age of 10, little Gordon was given a present – an old Spanish acoustic guitar.
By profession Sting is a teacher of English. And it’s only while working at school he understands that he is made for music. Before playing music professionally, Sumner worked as a ditch digger.(землекоп)
In 1977 Sting, an American drummer Stewart Copeland and an English guitar player Andy Summers form a new wave band called “The Police”.
With their five albums they win six Grammy Awards and two Brit Awards. In 1982 their rock group was called the Best British Group. “The Police” were inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame.
In September 1981, Sting makes his first solo appearance. And in 1983 he decides to leave “The Police” since they have reached the pick and to start a solo career during which Gordon Sumner from a shipyard town becomes the well-known, iconic Sting. His 1991 album “The Soul Cages” was dedicated to his recently deceased (умерший) father. It included the Top 10 songs “All this Time”. The album eventually went Platinum.
For the first time Sting married an actress Frances Tomelty. They have two children. After the devorce he married an actress and a film producer Trudie Styler for the second time. They have four children.
The more mature Sting becomes the deeper and the more insightful songs he writes. Among which we can name “Fragile”, “Russians”, “A Thousand years” and many others.
Some interesting facts of his life.
“ Being a music star, he is still a teacher. What he teaches now is how to love people and nature, how to live happily and stay a human being. “I believe in the power of music. You can plant seeds in people’s minds,” says Sting in his interview for Russian journalist Vladimir Pozner.
So coming to a conclusion I would like to say that if Sting’s contribution to his country is not that obvious (очевидно), it’s certainly obvious in matters of teaching a man to live and love. Let’s follow his thoughts and try not to forget how fragile (хрупкие) we are.v
