Vladikavkaz

Hello, dear friends ! Today you`ll visit our wonderful town of Vladikavkaz. You`ll see many interesting things on your way to the hotel.

Our town is over 200 years old. It was founded as a fortress at the foot of the Caucasian Mountains in 1784.

The oldest street in our town is Prospect Mira ( the first half of the

19 century). Each building in it has its own peculiar style. It is the

historic centre of the town.

In 1774 North Ossetia was joined to Russia by the order of the Empress Katherine. The Square of Friendship of two peoples commemorates this event.

People of different nations and confessions live in North Ossetia: Ossetians, Russians, Armenians, Germans, Georgians and many others. All of them have their own language, culture, customs and traditions. The Sunni Mosque

Vladikavaz is the cultural centre of our republic. There are 3 Drama Theatres, a puppet theatre, a Philharmonic Society, museums and picture galleries in it.

A lot of outstanding writers lived and worked in Vladikavkaz, Kosta Khetagurov, M. Lermontov, M. Bulgakov, A. S. Pushkin.

One of the new districts in the town. The Square of Fountains is

a favorite place of the citizens.

In summer our city dwellers like to go for walks on the embankment.

The monument “The arrival of Pushkin at Vladikavkaz” is very unusual and the opinions of the people are very controversial.
