Straw Bear Festival
All people are fond of celebrations
And everyone likes congratulations!
A year has a lot of holidays,
People celebrate them in different ways.
We’d like to introduce an only one,
This holiday is really a fun!
This holiday is called “Strawbower” or the festival of the Straw Bear.
It is an old custom and celebrated in many countries of the world:
in Great Britain,
Finland,
Germany.
It is celebrated in January usually. It’s very much alike Russian Maslenitsa, which we celebrate at the end of February or the beginning of March.
Here, in Russia, we celebrate Maslenitsa to say “Good bye” to winter. We burn straw scarecrows of winter, sing songs, dance, eat pancakes. It’s a funny merry holiday!
During the festival of the Straw Bear a man covered in straw goes from house to house and dance.
Plough Mondayis the traditional start of the English agricultural year. Plough Monday comes after the 12-th night.
Let’s dance and sing and play!
A carnival procession looks very
interesting and funny.
The festival is unusual and merry at the same time!
