Walking in Ivanovo 10 main attractions of Ivanovo: a plan for a weekend walk

Walking in Ivanovo 10 main attractions of Ivanovo: a plan for a weekend walk

  1. Railway station

  1. Railway station

  • It's easier to start at the train station. This is one of the real symbols of the city. It was built in 1933 in the style of "constructivism", designed by architect V.M. Kaverinsky. In those years it was the 7th largest railway station in the USSR, and now it is the largest of all, built in the style of constructivism.
After the station, walk along Karl Marx Street to Lenin Avenue and see there the most unusual buildings of the city that have become a symbol of constructivism: metaphor houses, so named because in their appearance they repeat one or another image laid down by the architect during the design.

2. Bird House

2. Bird House

  • It is difficult to see the specifics of this building from the ground, it "opens" only from a height. The "bird" spread its two wings in a symmetrical plan of the structure. But its facade, on the contrary, is asymmetrical, thanks to the observatory located under the "left wing".
  • The house was built by architect Vasily Pankov in 1928 for the oldest school in the city. It is located in this building now.
3. House-Ship

3. House-Ship

  • The house was built by architect Friedman in 1930. In fact, this is a complex of two buildings: the first, the one that stands "sideways" on Lenin Avenue, was intended for the nomenclature, and the second, hidden behind it - it is often called a "barge". Unfortunately, the house is in poor condition now. It is still residential, but requires urgent reconstruction.
4. Bullet House

4. Bullet House

  • It was built in 1930-1932 for the Ivanovo OGPU by architect pN. I. Kadnikov. A cylinder is "attached" to the rectangular main volume of the building - thus the building looks like a bullet in the plan. This unique building was designed in the style of constructivism and with elements of the so-called "red dorica" - a style that used the most simplified forms of traditional architecture. Therefore, in a building built of brick with separate reinforced concrete details, Doric columns are read, as it were, which make it majestic and gloomy at the same time.
  • You can also turn onto Gromoboya Street - it's very close, and see the Horseshoe House.
5. Art Museum

5. Art Museum

  • Almost immediately behind the Bullet House, down Lenin Avenue is the Ivanovo Art Museum.
  • Here you can study the whole history of art in one place. There are halls dedicated to the art of Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. This is the subject of the permanent exhibition "Ancient World. Cultural monuments of Egypt, Greece, Rome. XXI century BC - IV century AD".
  • But the most interesting thing in the museum is the history of the development of art from the end of the XIX century to the end of the XX. Now in the halls of the museum there is a long-term exhibition "The twentieth century. Installation". The best works of artists in different genres are shown, revealing the uniqueness of a particular historical moment.
6. Calico Museum

6. Calico Museum

  • Further along the route is the calico Museum. This is the most famous and "profile" Ivanovo museum. He tells about the history of the development of patterned fabrics and the development of the technology of their manufacture: from handmade (rollers, pulleys, spinning wheels) to huge industrial machines. The main goal of the museum is to show calico fabric as one of the types of decorative and applied art that preserves the traditions of folk ornament. Here you can see a unique textile collection, numbering half a million units: from ancient calico of the XVIII century to unique propaganda drawings of the early twentieth century. A real library of ornaments and patterns.
  • But the most important thing here is to see the collection of propaganda textiles.
7. Burylin Museum of Industry and Art

7. Burylin Museum of Industry and Art

  • Opposite the calico Museum is the museum named after the most famous patron of Ivanovo - Dmitry Burylin. It is necessary to take a walk around the "Ivanovo Hermitage"!
  • The museum was opened in 1914 in a building built by the decision of the manufacturer D.G. Burylin and connected to his apartment building by an underground tunnel. The collection is based on the collections of "antiquities and rarities" by Dmitry Burylin, Ivanovo-Voznesensky manufacturer, collector, philanthropist and educator. Dmitry Gennadievich traveled all over the world and bought coins, smoking pipes, jewelry, icons, playing cards, paintings and engravings. Here it will be interesting to see an astronomical clock, an Egyptian mummy, printed books of the XV century and the death mask of Peter I. And all this in the real interiors of a residential building of one of the richest manufacturers.
8. The river Uvod and its embankment

8. The river Uvod and its embankment

  • Then you will come to the river Uvod, you can cross it over the Theater Bridge and walk along the embankment or in one of the parks by the river.
  • The river Uvod is a kind of symbol of the city and its central landmark. It was here that the first manufactories of the city began. Along the river and now you can see a large number of red brick buildings.
9. Museum of the First Council

9. Museum of the First Council

  • Further, Lelin Avenue turns off and rests on August 10 Street. It is named after the demonstration of Ivanovo-Voznesensk workers on August 10, 1915, which was shot by the Tsarist troops.
  • On a parallel street, literally behind the building of the fire station, there is a Museum of the First Council.
It was here that the meetings of Russia's first citywide Council of Workers' Deputies were held, which was created during a political strike in May 1905. The first part of the exhibition tells about the history of the city and about the creation of the first workers' councils, about the attempt to create a civil society at the beginning of the XX century. The second part of the exhibition tells about how the citizens of the new Soviet country lived - from the 1920s to the 1970s. The exhibition is designed as a large communal apartment, reflecting the life and realities of ordinary Soviet citizens through the prism of the main historical events of the XX century, comparing two opposites: public and private life, official and personal.

10. The oldest building in Ivanovo is the Shchudrov tent

  • It was built at the end of the XVII century. It served as a command hut for the governors of the Cherkassov princes. In the XIX century, it was first rebuilt into a block building, new floors were added to it, then it even served as a residential building. But in 1988, the restoration was completed, the building was returned to its original appearance. However, it will not be possible to go inside now - but you can see the building from the outside. This building has no analogues in neighboring regions, an example of civil stone architecture of the XVII century, it looks something like the Pskov white stone chambers.
This is the route that turned out to be around the city. Of course, there are other attractions in the city, but this list is more than enough for a weekend walk!
