Margaret Thatcher
I was born on October 13, 1925 in the city of Grantem in a family of the grocer. After leaving school I studied at the Oxford university, in 1947 — 1951 I worked as the research chemist. In 1950 for the first time I proposed the candidature at parliamentary elections, but I failed.
In 1953 Thatcher got a legal education then was engaged in lawyer practice (1954 — 1957). In 1959 her elected in parliament. In 1961 — 1964 Thatcher held a post of the junior minister of provision of pensions and social insurance, in 1970 — 1974 — a post of the minister of education and science. After defeat of Conservative party on elections (1974) Thatcher was elected it the leader. In May, 1979 conservatives won elections, and Thatcher received a post of the prime minister.
It connected the program for economy improvement with cut in public expenditure, the termination of subsidizing of the unprofitable enterprises, transfer to private possession of the state corporations; I considered inflation by bigger danger, than unemployment. Hardness in upholding of the views, rigidity when carrying out in life of the made decisions assigned to Thatcher a title of "the iron lady".
In 1982 it sent the British armies on Falkland (Malvinskiye) the islands seized by Argentina. On elections in June, 1983, after a convincing victory of conservatives, Thatcher kept a post and continued the planned course. In 1984 — 1985 she didn't make concessions during a strike of miners, having kept thereby low fuel prices and the electric power. Inflation decreased, labor productivity increased. On elections in June, 1987 Thatcher for the first time in the history of modern Great Britain remained prime minister for the third term.
But resistance of integration of Great Britain in the European currency system caused discontent of conservatives with the leader. On November 22, 1990 Thatcher was compelled to retire. After leaving from a post of the prime minister Thatcher within two years I was the member of the House of Commons from Finchley. In 1992, at the age of 66 years, it made the decision to leave the British parliament that, in her opinion, gave the chance to it to express more openly the opinion on these or those events.
In February, 2007 Thatcher became the first prime minister of Great Britain to whom during lifetime established a monument in the British parliament (official opening took place on February 21, 2007 in the presence of the former politician).
