This holiday means the beginning of the new year and the new life.
FATHER CHRISTMAS
( SANTA CLAUS )
He has a white beard and white and red clothes. He is always merry.
He comes from the North
Pole and brings presents
for children.
He comes into
children’s homes
on Christmas Eve.
CHRISTMAS EVE
Christmas Eve is on the 24thof
December. On this day everybody
is very busy and in a hurry.
Offices close at 1 o’clock, but the
shops stay open late.
BOXING DAY
Boxing Day comes after the Christmas Day.
It is on the 26thof December.
This day people do not go to work.
They visit friends or go to the theatre.
Everybody gives and receives Christmas
cards and Christmas boxes.
Every Christmas British people are presented a bigChristmas treeby Norway. They put it up in Trafalgar Square in London.
Streets and houses are decorated with lights.
The Queen's Speech
One of the main traditions in Britain is the Queen's Christmas Message or Speech. At three o'clock in the afternoon, the Queen gives her Christmas Speech to the nation which is broadcast on radio and television.
Christmas Day is the greatest holiday in England. It is interesting to visit the shops before this holiday. There are a lot of niceChristmas cardsand presents there.

Many British families live in the houses, so when Christmas comes they beautifully decorate their houses and flats.
HOLLY
They use holly to decorate their homes during the dark cold winters.
It is an evergreen plant with sharp pointed leaves and berries.
MISTLETOE
It is an evergreen plant with small leaves and
small white berries. On Christmas Eve there
is a bunch of mistletoe in every house. Under
the bunch boys kiss girls.
ROBIN
It is a Christmas bird.
English families gather to have Christmas dinner. They eattraditional Christmas food:a roast turkey and a pudding.
Father Christmas comes at night and puts presents in thecolorful stockingsand under the Christmas tree
In the morning children find their presents there.

The colours most closely
associated with the

Some say that this is because of
the red and green plants of
wintertime contrasting with the
white snow.
Red
means love and reflects our warmth and
love for each other.
It is also the colour that is considered the
greatest excitement.
As a religious symbol it stands for fire , blood , and charity .
Green
means hope and the eternal
longing for spring and all the
promises of the future.
Green is the symbol of nature,
youth, and the hope of eternal
life.
White
means purity and is represented by the
crystalline form of water and the snowflake.
White is the religious symbol which stands
for light, purity, joy and glory.
