In Britain pets can send Christmas cards to their friends, birthday cards to “husbands, wives, boy or girl friends”.
The British like many other people from different countries believe that pets can also love each other and start families. Some owners can make a great wedding for their pets.
One of the most expensive weddings was the wedding of cats – Pet and his bride Ploy. It cost 16.000 $. The owner of the bridegroom paid for that. More that 500 guests were invited and they gave presents worth a total of 60.000 $.
Pets as accessories
The British people like to spend time with their pets. The Queen is famous for her corgis (short-legged, friendly dogs) and is often photographed with them. The Queen's children and grandchildren have inherited her love of dogs.
A few TV celebrities take their dogs shopping or to restaurants in their handbags. Chihuahuas are especially popular as ‘handbag dogs’ because they are so small.
Pet holidays
People are not just buying their pets the latest clothes and accessories – they also give them holidays. Many UK hotels and holiday parks welcome dogs and cats as guests.
Pets are for life not just for Christmas
You won’t meet in Britain lost or abandoned pets. It means that people should be very responsible for their pets. They shouldn’t give pets as gifts or treat them like toys.
Pets on TV
Victoria Sitwell is the host of the popular TV programme called ‘It’s me or the dog’. In the show Victoria helps dog owners with their pets’ bad behavior.
Witty designers from the UK created the first laptop for cats.
So, as you can see, the British adore their pets and take good care of them.
