Speaking Clothes

Hypothesis : if pupils knew the contents of writing they wouldn’t buy any clothes.

Project’s purposes :

• to pick up a certain number of inscriptions on the students' clothes
• to translate the inscriptions.
• to set the dependence of inscription meaning on clothes on the level of the English language proficiency.
• to attract classmates’ and schoolmates’ attention to the importance of problem
• to attract pupils’ attention to learning the language

History of inscriptions

Надписи на одежде существовали еще много веков назад. И самые ранние знакомы нам, по Древней Греции. Уже там мы находим вышивки на поясах, которые говорят нам об именах владельца, или находим имена на ювелирных украшениях. Очень часто в моде были надписи, которые представляли собой часть орнамента.

Scientists could find the earliest writings in Ancient Greece. They found embroideries on belts, which told us about the names of the owner or the names on the jewelry. There were inscriptions, which were a part of an ornament.

As for modern writings, first inscriptions decorated only the uniform of workers, indicating their status in the workplace, and then they started to show the designer or the company which these things belonged to, and after that inscriptions with real meaning began to appear.

C начала надписи украшали только форму рабочих, указывая на их статус на рабочем месте, потом они стали показывать какого дизайнера или какой фирмы эта вещь, а уже после этого стали появляться надписи, которые в самом деле несут смысл .

Inscriptions vary with the age. The child has just some funny phrases; a teenager has labels containing all sorts of phrases, beginning with a kind of a man to the number of the team or the streets.

Надписи меняются с возрастом человека. У ребенка это просто какие-то словосочетания или веселенькие фразы, у подростка – это надписи, содержащие всевозможные фразы, начиная с  того, какой это человек и заканчивая номером команды или улицы. 

Now, an indispensable attribute of youth wardrobe are T-shirts. In the wardrobe of any person you can find clothes containing the signs in English. T-shirts with funny slogans are especially popular among the youth. People select them according to their character taste.

Сейчас, незаменимым атрибутом молодежного гардероба являются футболки. В гардеробе любого человека встречаются предметы одежды, содержащие надписи на английском языке.

When a man puts on something with any inscription, what does he mean? «Nothing special, just for fun!»many people answer to this question, but not all. There is even cultural expression that a t-shirt is a «blank slate» for slogans and statements, and also it is a place for demonstration of their life credo. And, as you can see, our society enjoys this privilege successfully.

• Что имеет в виду человек, когда одевает одежду с надписью? «Ничего, просто так!» - говорят многие. Имеются даже культурологические изыскания на тему того, что футболка – это «чистая доска» для лозунгов и заявлений, а так же место для демонстрации своих увлечений, привычек, и много другого. И, как можно заметить, общество с успехом пользуется этой привилегией.

We are responsible for the writing on the clothes. When children are too little, their wardrobe choose their parents. At this age kids don't really care what they wear. However, they pay more attention to appearance when they become older. Their friends meet them at school by clothes. And youth fashion has its own trends and its own rules.

• Мы ответственны за надписи на своей одежде. Пока дети не достигли определенного возраста, родители занимаются их гардеробом. Но когда они становятся старше, подростки стараются сами выбирать одежду. Друзья встречают их в школе по одежде. И у моды подростков свои правила и свои тренды.

Survey Researching inscriptions on the clothes of students: 1.I found pupils wearing T-shirts with English inscriptions 2. I took photos of the most interesting inscriptions and asked the following questions: • how old they are • if they know the meaning of their inscriptions on their clothes or not 3. I translated the inscriptions
