Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov was a Russian scientist and writer who made important contributions to literature, education and science.

Early years
He was born in 1711 in the village of Denisovka near Kholmogory in the far north of Russia.

His father, Vasily Dorofeyevich Lomonosov, was a fisherman. He bought a ship and began transporting things from Arkhangelsk to other places.

Misha was not interested in the family business. He spent as much time as he could with books he could find.

In 1730, at the age of 19, the young man left his home and joined a caravan travelling to Moscow.

He entered the Slavic Greek Latin Academy. He lived on bread and water for a long time but he made rapid progress.
He completed a twelve-year study course in only five years, graduated from the Academy with brilliant results .

Lomonosov was given an opportunity to go to Saint Petersburg State University and later to the University of Marburg in Germany. He quickly learned German and was interested in German literature and philosophy. He studied chemistry seriously.

Lomonosov got married in Germany.
He decided to return to St. Petersburg.

He became a professor of chemistry. Lomonosov developed a number of important theories and made several brilliant discoveries.
Poetry
He wrote poetry, some of which is still remembered nowadays. His poetry helped to develop the modern Russian language.
Education in Russia
Lomonosov founded Moscow University wishing to improve education in Russia.
The Memory of him will long be handed down from generation to generation.
